We Need to Trade for Richard Sherman!

Would trade one of our CB's (Carroll or Scandrick) and next year's 2nd rounder for Sherman. Someone posted a thread about getting another "Charles Haley" to get our defensive line over the top like '92. Along with our draft picks, Sherman would be the final addition, our 2017 version of Charles Haley, that would take our secondary to the next level. Our secondary could be the strongest it's been in years and would help an average pash rush.

Nope. Unless it's dirty cheap. But then Sherman will want to be paid. Strongest secondary won't be able to cover forever if the front 4 isn't strong enough.

Only trade for a pass rusher like what we did with Haley.

Interesting we are talking about playing alot of zone, then we bring up Sherman.....really.

I do have to admit to the guys that say we aren't one player away, we went 13-3. We should be pretty close, although I know we aren't.

spend available money on the DL

Although I do agree, we also have to realize there is a such thing as a coverage sack. Doesn't matter if we have a line of 4 HOFers if the ball is gone before they can get off the snap.

It's not like teams get pressure on every single snap, we have to be able to cover also. Now Sherman is a waste of time, but the DL only mentality is also a bit off.

true, we have already thrown a lot of resources at the DBs.
IMO trying to stop the pass by further improving the DB is like someone trying to stop a dam bursting by plugging the holes with his hands. whereas fixing the DL feels more like fixing the dam itself.

No friggin way.

I want this team to be built to be competitive for the next decade (at least).

And that means not spending draft picks on 30yo players... No matter how good they are or were.

Collect those draft picks... Should have 9 or 10 next April... Be very judicious about handing out 3rd contracts... Collect those compensation picks and constantly have an influx of young talent.

Understood, but you can't have too many good players regardless of position. CB is a premium position, just like pass rusher.

If we can't cover, I don't care who we have rushing Brady, we will lose cause the ball won't be there....it will be gone. Both phases have to be in tandem, and hopefully we are making steps in both, not just one of them.

I think it is different shades of grey.
IMO more than enough resources have been put in the backfield (4 draft picks and one cheap FA).
RDE is the #1 missing link IMO.
If the CBs have to cover for 8 secs, we are going to have a repeat of the GB game...
On top of it, Sherman is 30...

Oh I never said I want Sherman, I don't. Was just mentioning in general about the DL only talk, cause truthfully we don't know what we have in secondary yet til they take the field with a star on their helmet and a lil money in their pockets.

I do think a line of Taco, Collins, Irving, and Tapper could be pretty interesting out there. But they are just as unknown as our secondary at the moment.

With Romo coming off the books for the next three years, we could take on the deal easily but I would rather use those resources down the line when a pass rusher like Ingram becomes available.

I wouldn't trade picks for Ingram but I would certainly pay the man. Doubtful they will pay him next year when the franchise amount escalates. Heck, he still hasn't signed and it could be rescinded.

Pass rusher and backup QB are the only spots it really makes sense to use cap space.
Not to mention, if we want a premier corner, we can just snag Butler next offseason when he's a FA

Sherman is a cover 3 zone corner
