We should have traded for Sproles

I had so much faith in Dunbar that I thought we didn't need Sproles, but he is lighting it up this year for the Eagles and it only cost them a 5th round draft pick.

He only has a 2 million dollar cap hit this year...

Would have made a great compliment to Murray, who I think we are overusing at the moment. Murray just isn't as dynamic a player when it comes to other facets of the game outside of just running. Always wanted him to be, but it's becoming more and more obvious he isn't that guy.

It'll still be interesting to see what the Cowboys do with Murray. It would be a huge mistake to re-sign him midseason, and I still can't see signing him to big money next year. I'd like to see what Randle/Dunbar could do with some carries behind this line, especially with Murray fumbling so much this year. It would be nice if Williams was called up soon too.

The question you need to ask yourself is if we did trade for him, with the way our O-line is playing, Demarco is running and these games have turned out. Do you think his production would be what it is with the Eagles? There has to be a reason the Saints got rid of him right?

When Sproles gets open on an out like Dunbar did against the Rams does the fact that he's Sproles make Romo complete that pass in the face of pressure better? I don't think so.

There are 13 more games to go.

After reading the 3rd down target thread I agree. Murray out and Sproles in would have resulted in a more dynamic offense.

I think Sproles remains a highly dynamic player, I don't think Dunbar is that guy yet, and I'm concerned by the fact that either because of his lack of talent or lack of prestige he isn't being used in that role.

At first I thought it was silly for Philly to get Sproles when they have McCoy (who I think most people would say is much better than Murray), but they're making it work.

One thing I know is IF we would have traded for Sproles Philly wouldn't have him and that would help when going up against him.

Targeting veteran RBs for backup purposes is something I'd like us to do more. Chris Ivory would have been a great addition as well.

DeMarco is leading the league in rushing. Sproles would have to play slot to get his playing time. Murray has even had respectable receiving numbers also. Sproles is putting up an impressive yards per play number this year though.

Why......this team and the coaching staff always has had problems running, designing and using certain plays and certain players regardless of the OC. I honestly think the blame should be on Garrett and Romo because we just can't seem to ever run any set plays. Everything at least passing wise, has to be scatter brain drawing crap up on the field at the last second. Sproles would have been a wasted talent on this team just as Dunbar is. No set swing screens no nothing. I guess you gotta leave that up to the extremely creative minds of Chip Kelly, Sean Peyton and most 15 year olds playing Madden.

I normally like your threads but this is irrational, they are underutilizing Williams, Escobar, Dunbar, Beasley and Harris (one Jets sweep is all I ask), no reason to believe he could live up to his potential with Dallas. I mean it's taken them this long to realise what they have with Murray.

What a let down for you. I saw Dunbar as a jag and didn't quite get the comparison to Sproles. Sproles is built like a bowling ball.

That's the crux of it.

Considering the fact that Dunbar isn't getting any looks at all, I don't see how you could sit here and say that Sproles would be getting a healthy number of touches. Unless you're going to use him in place of DeMarco from time to time, I think he'd be a really underutilized asset in Dallas.

ps...the Saints got rid of him because they are stupid. He might have been the most important guy on that offense because he allowed Brees to simply throw one yard passes all the time and pick up 7,8 yards. The guy averaged like freaking 660 yards receiving a year, not to mention the fact that he commanded so much attention that it helped other guys get open. How the Saints didn't see that I have no idea.

Baby steps, let's work on the mismatches with Escobar, then we'll unleash Dunbar and make everyone forget Sproles.

I still like Dunbar's potential and his cap hit (don't forget, the Eagles had to trade a 5th round pick for Sproles). I think we were in worse position to make that type of trade because we have so many positions of need and rolling 6's on a 5th round pick could help dramatically.

What I like about Dunbar the most is that he is a very smooth route runner. I think if we can get him to get better at picking up the blitzes, we can eventually use that to our advantage. Because then he may get a favorable matchup against a LB and run a 10-yard out-route and turn it into a large gain. And if you can do that repeatedly, it's really hard to stop unless you switch a safety or a corner on him. And then that opens up things for Dez, T. Will, Beasley, Witten and Escobar.

I just wish the Eagles didn't have Sproles more than the Cowboys having him.

Way to go, New Orleans.

I've got to believe Dunbar will mysteriously show up a lot in a game where we need him the most. A guy who can reach the edges and accelerate like he can has got to see some flares or screens soon.
