I was ready to kick Parcells out of here after this season. Like many of you, I'm disappointed and feel he is largely to blame for our missing the playoffs. However, I was listening to talk radio last night and a caller's take reminded me of something. The caller mentioned the Pittsburgh Steelers' success. They have only had 2 head coaches since 1969. That is a huge reason why they are successful. It's called stability. And that is something we haven't had around here in a long time. Granted some coaches like Dave Campo simply had to go because he was ineffective. But with Parcells, he has at least won 2 Superbowls and did pull of an amazing accomplishment in his first year.
Look, I'm not happy with Parcells' decision to not develop our younger QB's. And I'm not happy that he relies so much on veterans. However, we did finish 9-7. And realistically, who are we going to get that is better than Parcells? Jimmy Johnson isn't coming although I would prefer that. And with a young college head coach or a proven assistant coach in the NFL, you are rolling the dice. Sure, we could get lucky and grab another Andy Reid but the odds are we would get an assistant who would become a bust.
Sure, I'm not thrilled by this year's progress like some are. We were 7-3 and to finish 9-7 is disappointing, but, our best option is to stick with Parcells and build some stability.
