Tyler Smith made a reference to his contract and whether he was going to be playing LT or LG. I think the only issue he has is that if he’s a LT he wants paid like one. And perhaps this why he’s staying at LG so Booger can go cheap at LT with a rookie contract.
 
We had a top offense with what we had at LT last year. While not a great player by any means, Guyton did improve and had some good games. Id like to improve the tackle situation on both sides, but I don't believe it's a forgone conclusion that the season over if we don't.

They're not gonna put a starting left tackle in there they're going to keep working Guyton throughout camp and preseason but yes we need swing tackle can play left tackle in an emergency if Guyton just keeps getting stuck in his development yes we need a guy on the team that can be the swing tackle but that has played a lot of left tackle so a veteran that's what we need to bring in..

FINALLY.
I didn't have to read 5 pages AND you are correct in your assessment that a bridge vet on a one to two year deal is the answer while Dak is still playing at a high level.

There is no more time to waste on this stagnated and/or regressed development of Guyton.
Sunk draft cost at this point.
The window, if there truly is one, is now.
So sign a vet. And make sure he's better than Chuma Edoga this time.

It's a gaping hole because we can't trust who's at LT right now. I thought Walker would lowkey be our #2 target behind Cosby and Hendrickson.

Robinson fits that swing tackle, 8-12 mil for 1 year.

No, we do not need to spend any more resources on OL for the #2 offense in the league. Good lord how do you look at this roster and call out LT

Okay. Yes. Nate Thomas isn't the answer but Guyton is the guy unless he nosedives. All I'm saying is that they are not likely to spend so much on a swing tackle. Should they get one? Absolutely. But 8 - 12 mil/yr? I think not. He would be making 3 to 4x what Guyton is currently making (4 yr 13 mil). I think they look to round 5 for a gem or two. Or maybe they take one at 92...or find a cheaper guy in the 1 - 3 mil/yr range. As I noted before...in 2022 they paid former pro-bowler Jason Peters about 1.8 mil for a year. Pro-bowler...not some practice squad player.
 
They already chose one and now they have to let it play out. They also pay the QB to step up and be a positive difference maker so you don't have to have HOF players at every position along the line.
 
I fully expect them to draft LT with that first draft pick. Just Cowboys doing Cowboys thing.

I wouldn't be shocked if we gave the 49ers back their 3rd...and Tyler Smith for Trent Williams. Then start Bass @ LG.

It's not. Schottenheimer needs to adjust when teams try to do what Minnesota did. More balls to the running backs. Move Pickens around this year, as he has said they will look to do. More screens. The biggest problems occurred when Guyton wasn't out there. When he is healthy the line is pretty solid. With Nate Thomas there is trouble. You can get by with one guy who is substandard in pass-pro (Steele) but not with TWO.

The Detroit game showed how bad it can get. Not unlike what happened at Minnesota in the 2009 playoffs...where the line completely collapsed.

Quite right. Regardless of anyone's feelings on Guyton, it is the correct assessment that we need a strong swing tackle.
 
Well, time will tell up to the draft if the smoke about Guyton and football toughness is true.
They've tied themselves to Steele for a ~2 years so any thought of Guyton swapping sides is probably void.

Saying this is truthful and saying it's going to happen are two different things though. I don't see many debating you on whether or not Guyton is adequate, just at the likelihood that we are signing someone to take his spot (and for $8-$12 million this year even).

I agree with your assessment on his play, however I agree with other's assessments on what this team is going to do at the position.

We had one of the top offenses in the league with Guyton/Thomas playing LT and Steele at RT. Even though there is definitely room for improvement, I don't think the front office feels that it is the need you believe it is.
