You're missing the point. Nowhere did I mention their depth or the opportunity for someone else. I get all that. My point was it would have been interesting to see two talented starting corners like Diggs and Gilmore starting on this defense. Bland and the rest of the depth are solid will do a great job filling in but they are not Diggs. Gilmore is probably gone after this year.Who robbed us?
It was an injury. We see them every week in the NFL. They are unfortunate, to be sure. However, this is why depth is so important and the great franchises know how to construct teams capable of dealing with most injuries while dealing with the salary cap.
Good teams don't just cross their fingers and hope their best players stay healthy. They fill their roster with players that show the potential of stepping up when need be. The teams that succeed during the 3rd day of the draft typically overcome injury situations and the Cowboys are one of them.
Biadasz, Clark, Bland, Mukuamu, Wilson, Harper, Vaughn are all guys drafted 4th round or lower. They enable the Cowboys to obtain depth as well as undrafted free agents like Hendershot, Rush, Steele, Dowdle and Bell.
This injury illustrates the advantage of the Cowboys personnel department. What if the Cowboys didn't have Bland? Later in the season, they might needs more help from a guy like Scott and it's a definite advantage that he will be there.
There are a lot of really good Cowboys players that would never be discovered if it wasn't for an injury to another player.
We found out about Bland when Lewis went down. We found out about Dak when both Kellen Moore and Tony Romo went down. We found out about Terrence Steele when Collins went down.
This is the only positive to come out of the injury. I doubt we will be able to afford to keep Gilmore with Parson's future contract so this gives Bland the reps he needs to improve to play opposite Diggs next season.I really don't think we'll be able to pay Gilmore and everyone else. Eventually something will have to give.
That is always the easy default thinking for fans. The Cowboys don't think that way though.I wouldn’t mind trading for a CB. Give up some draft capital to sure it up.
IMO now is the worst time for a trade like that. Let’s see what we have in Bland, Lewis and Igbinoghene before pushing a panic trade. People forget how many SB champs in the past have lost quality starters and still won.I wouldn’t mind trading for a CB. Give up some draft capital to sure it up. Gilmore is not a long term solution anyway.
Was shaping up to be one of the best secondary's of all time. What a shame. We were robbed of seeing this tandem all year. Kind of like when Kevin Smith went down and we could have seen him with Deion.
Hopefully Gilmore signs on again for next year.
Would have been interesting to rank where Diggs and Gilmore ended in Cowboys history for CB tandems.
Can’t afford another injury to this corner group now.
That has to be one of the singe dumbest statements of all time.Injuries are part of the game. Gotta overcome them.
