WEATHER PLAYS HAVOC WITH PRACTICE The Cowboys were forced to keep their eyes on the Doppler radar last week, as a series of storms rolled through North Texas. After losing their indoor practice facility under heavy winds back in May, the players and coaches have had to practice in soggy weather a couple of times.

Last Wednesday the rains came just as practice began, though the team wasn't drenched heavily. Thursday's practice was at first scheduled to be held in an indoor facility at a nearby high school, but the Cowboys audibled, moving the start time up an hour so they could finish before the afternoon weather rolled in.

While rain wasn't a factor on Friday the team was concerned that 60 sets of cleats digging into the still-tender sod at Valley Ranch would be bad for the fields, and moved practice to Standridge Stadium, the high school park where they held summer OTAs and mini-camp.

Though practicing through the storms may be an inconvenience, the Cowboys are trying to find a silver lining

"We need to get used to the elements anyway," head coach Wade Phillips said. "We've got to play outdoors anyway. ... Hopefully we'll miss some of the rain, but if we happen to have some of it, it could happen in a ballgame.

"It doesn't affect us a whole lot. Players, just tell them where they're going to practice and they go out and practice."
