Weather where you are

I'm so sick of Winter.
I'm looking at getting close to two feet of snow here in NJ. That alone is not my problem. Just as long as the power doesn't go out. But yet again I have to call out from work. I work midnight shifts, so I have to go in Sunday night. No chance I'm driving in a foot of snow. A normally half hour drive would be quadrupled. Not doing it.

My job is driving. I wouldn't do it, even if I thought any of our customers would be open and able to take their lumber.

So how does that work, doesn’t everybody wind up calling out?

Everybody doesn't. Even if they did, there will always be people willing to come in for the overtime + 100 dollars state of emergency pay. It's almost 500 bucks just for 1 shift.

I'm a toll collector. There is always someone that lives close to some exit willing to come in. The closest exit to me is around a half hour. I'm not doing it.

My snow blower is good to 15 inches so I did the driveway and walkway this morning and the snow was just to the top of the blower with some drifts over it. I heard some parts south and east of me got it a lot worse.

I've had enough too. The last storm was starting to melt away and now this on top of what was left of that. UGH!

The good news is, I did get my generator working. It is warmer now that it was for the last storm so it started right up. If we have a power failure at least I'll e able to get some things working.

My snow blower is a monster, and it is still taking me a lot of time. Plows haven't even been to my street yet. Too busy keeping up with the main roads. I have to take another day off.

I should get a generator or at the very least, a power bank for the fridge. I'm just lucky my power didn't go out. I get 10 weeks paid time off, I just hate to use days for this crap.

I also heard we're getting another deep freeze. We're going to have to see this snow for even longer still. Then they're talking about more storms coming.

Next week is March! It is supposed to be getting warming isn;t it? Please tell me we will have a week of 40 degree weather so this stuff melts away. Please!

March can be brutal too in the northeast. Next Saturday and Sunday is supposed to be warmer. But I also see snow on Monday and Tuesday. But take all of that with a grain of salt. Forecasts that far into the future are just fantasy. It's never right. Or like in this current case, much worse than predicted.

10 weeks paid time off, that’s approaching teacher territory! Bravo.

It's a relic of a job still hanging on. When unions were strong. I'm a toll collector. Even the maintenance workers have the same. Right down to the janitor. I also get 1 extra vacation day every year I'm there. You don't find jobs like that anymore.

I'm one of those odd people that are mostly conservative but love unions. Because I am for me. I love me some me, to quote Owens. I live my life for me, not my employer.

The wind after the snow is really helpful. Turn the snowblower chute one way, to go with the wind, and it immediately changes direction, either right toward what you've already cleared, or right in your face.

I’m surprised they have not gone 100% ezpass or plate reader and bill you. Tolls in Fla are going that route quickly, much better for traffic flow too. At least you are a veteran, if you were just starting out now you would really be screwed.
