I’m surprised they have not gone 100% ezpass or plate reader and bill you. Tolls in Fla are going that route quickly, much better for traffic flow too. At least you are a veteran, if you were just starting out now you would really be screwed.

It would be a lengthy post if I explained all the ways they make extra money by not going totally automated. For example, violations are one of them. They get thousands of them a day. If they just went by pay by plate, everyone would pay what they should be paying. NJ makes a ton of money fining out of state travelers that are clueless.

Where I am most tolls are automated. They read your plate and you've c.24hrs to pay online (unless you have an account that is in credit). After that they start escalating with penalties - even 1 day late is double the original toll.

A small number of people end up in court for non-payment. Usually 100s of tolls/penalties adding up to 100,000s. Funny enough, these people tend to no show for the case.

Tornadoes ripping through the area all around me, per the usual these days.

Somehow, one hasn’t hit my town yet, but one no doubt will at some point in the future. They’ve hit towns just 20 miles north and south of me over the last few years.

My Great Granpa lived through the Tri State tornado of 1925 and this area is still impacted by the tales. It killed 695 people.

That tornado was a monster, not only on the f scale but was on the ground for a very long duration
