I hope the Weeden haters have quieted just a bit. He's still not starting quality material, but the guy made good decisions, threw the ball well, moved in the pocket and out of the pocket pretty well for a stiff, except for the one play where Leary got shoved back into him....looked like a total clutz there. He's driving the bus, and he can hit open receivers.
Therein lies the problem.....our receivers are a bunch of hot crap! Besides Witten and Beasley, who cannot play on the outside, no one else on this team can get separation or run a decent route and get open.
TWill made a great catch to send the game into overtime....I'll give him that, but he still sucks! They had a kid who'd never played in college, came over from Canadian league, made the team as a walk-on/tryout covering him all over the field, and Williams couldn't get off the freakin' line of scrimmage! He had no quick moves to leave Breaux behind, no slapping his hands away, nothing. The Weeden passes in the back of the end zone looked bad because Williams couldn't get away from the guy....he was hand-fighting and trying to push off and just couldn't even run his route....sad. The great catch he made at the end was because he still couldn't get around Breaux.
I'm not talking get around and behind the guy....I'm talking he couldn't even run a pattern and get near a contested pass!
The cameras caught it throughout the game and the announcers kept referring to it....Weeden had nowhere to go with the football. We need a #2 guy who is a possession type receiver moreso than we need him to be a stretch the field burner, and I'm not just talking about right now...even after Dez returns, this team needs a guy who knows how to get off the line against press coverage, can run a route well enough to get a little separation, who can battle for a ball and use his body, and a guy with dependable hands.
Weeden is what he is....a strong armed QB with limited mobility who is making good decisions for the most part now that he's comfortable in a system, but he is a BACKUP.
Terence Williams?.....I'm sorry, despite that one catch, the only time he was open the entire game was on an illegal pick by Witten....unless it's a blown coverage or lay back zone, he's worthless.
The defense will improve with more healthy front 7 guys on the way, but the OL still got manhandled at times up front, and we have no receivers until Dez returns....if he returns.
Tyron gave up another sack? He just looks lethargic at times....and the run blocking on that 3rd and 1 with Michael running was pathetic....until that group can get its act together and play with some fire, it doesn't matter who's carrying the pill.
