Week 1 OL?

It kinda threw me off a bit with CWill starting out at OC and Biadasz coming in after him so I'm wondering who actually has won the starting spot. But even with that uncertainty I think your guess on possibly McGovern at LG and Biadasz at center is as good as any.

I actually thought this year's guard center guard rotation would be okay. Not dominant but adequate. Although last night's showing was not encouraging.

The backup tackles is where my concern was and still remains mainly.

Last night's multiple poor center exchanges has me hoping additional practicing can improve this current interior line depth that I originally thought was okay.

Williams was terrible last night. No way he is a starting C.

I think the backups at center and tackle are something to worry about
Hopefully not week one but it’s almost guaranteed that a backup will play at some point this year
Something bad happens to everyone eventually…

The game has evolved. Everything is tenuous, injury is a certainty, and loyalty doesn’t exist anymore. You could win every game for ten years, but lose a couple in a row, and it’s all forgotten. You suck and need to be ashamed!

Why are you worried? Center is in the best hands since Frederick, looney didn’t sign with anyone and is on speed dial. Small worry for me.

Only worried is Biadsz goes down, that's what I meant. Whose the backup?? I'm pretty sure you'd agree with me that C.Williams sucked!! The only GOOD backup Olinemen are the ones that can play multiple positions "decently"...

agree.

CGov played C in college I believe. Why aren’t they letting him play C ?

CWill isn’t a Center.

Williams right now is a better LG than McGovern. Williams is not a center and is learning the center position. everyone is freaking out, but its pre-season and they are trying to get Williams as many snaps as possible as a center for back up duties.....this is the time that they need to do this, not just practice time.

CWill is a disaster at C. They need to stop this.

I think Williams described it as an "emergency" scenario which gives us a good indication. IMO everything points to Collins, Martin, Biadasz, Williams, Smith

Yep,
been mentioned by another poster. As well as Williams past college tackle experience while only cross trained as a center.
I remarked on another post that I don't understand some of these OL decisions that dont match the player with his best position to succeed.

Philbin confused me a few times with some of this same stuff last year as well.

Doesn't quite inspire confidence with me.

he is....but we have no back up center. I think the thinking of the coaching staff might be to try and go with 8 or 9 OL men, so some may have to play two positions for that to happen. This way, they get one more spot for some other position. so given we really don't have other centers, they are working on williams....I expected it not to be good...it will take time, but this is the time of the year you have to try.....otherwise we might have to sign somebody and that will be one less spot available for a CB or DL man...... more critical positions

Smith-Williams-Biadsz-Martin-Collins is your best line when healthy and, if healthy, that's who they'll go with.

That's the ticket......with McGovern backup OG and i am hoping they can start utilizing Alarcon as a backup something, OT or OG.. he has potential and i think better than Steele for sure.

The starting OL is pretty much set in stone... LT Smith, LG Williams, C Biadasz, RG Martin, LT Collins

Yes, I'll buy that for a dollar.. ... its the backups that are the problem. I do like McGovern and Alarcon...the others not too sure about. Especially Steele. Would be nice to get Okung on a one year deal to backup Smith.

Looney signed with the Giants then retired. He's under contract with them, IF he decides he even wants to play football, so you'd have to call the Giants.

So true

And you don't think they can work a trade?

I am still trying to figure out why they are making a bit of a spectacle about the role.
I think it as simple as, they get to see Williams at C and McGovern at LG and can better make their decisions. They need to see McGovern at LG with the starters and might as well take a look at Williams at C. LT, RT, and RG are set in stone so it is just LG and C that they’re tinkering with.

JMO.
