Week 1 Primer... New York Jets

I treasure the memory paying $5 to watch the Dallas Texans beat the NY Titans at P. C. Cobb stadium but I don't remember whether it was '61 or '62. The stadium had no seats, only bleachers. It was where high school games were played. It was eventually torn down to build the Infomart where the stadium once stood.

Back when stadium seats were vogue...and $5 (bucks) was a social convenience.

The Jets are being forced to play second fiddle to the Giants this year. They were chosen to be the home team for the 9/11 anniversary. The Giants will toil their anniversary in Washington, DC one of the other target sites.

... excellent job describing the jets history from a jets fan ...

... the above didn't make sense to me though ... did you mean the jets aren't ? ...

... good stuff ...

Myself, I would walk right on by a comparison departure involving the Trade Center and the Pentagon...

... not quite sure i understand what you're getting at here ...

... i'm certainly not trying to say one tragedy was worse than the other ...

... i don't see how the jets opening the year at home vs. the giants opening the year on the road in dc portrays the jets as playing second fiddle to the giants ...

Hos, my one liner that points to direction early, including this game, is this:

Big offenses are going to rule the first month of the season, and Dallas is solidly in that group.

I did mean aren't. Thank you. I'll go fix it right now and Thumper's advice too.

Thump...on this score: 'Actually, the merger was settled in 1966 with 1970 as the finalization of it. There was a common draft beginning in 1967 as well as the SuperBowl following the 1966 season. I don't believe the Jets' win in SB III did anything to affect the merger as the terms were already hammered out for a couple of years.'

It functionally was completely the account. As it gave imediate returns both in attendance revenues as well as negotiated media contracts from that point forward.
