Week 1 @ JETS
-Jets Defense vs Boys Offense-
The Jets have one of the top 3 D's in the league and will provide a tough task for our offense. With the retooling of our O-line I'm sure Rex will find numerous ways to keep our young linemen on their heels throughout the game. Rex's hectic blitz scheme will give Romo a plethora of looks and sets. Hopefully this is where Rob Ryans knowledge of their similar defensive scheme will aid our offense in this matchup, I'm sure Romo and the Boys are used to the blitz's by now as reports are that Rob has been blitzing like crazy all of training camp.
Austin and Bryant will definitely have the toughest match-up of the game going up against Revis and Cromartie. Not sure who Rex will assign Revis to but im guessing it'll be Austin because at this point he is the better route runner of the two and has a better grasp of the offense. That leaves Dez for Cromartie, this is were it should get interesting. Dez has the ability to best any DB in the league and with Cromartie's frame and physical abilities this will be a sufficient match-up by which we can gauge Dez's progress in the offense. If both our top receivers are less than stellar Ogletree will have to step up out of the slot and have a big game.
Felix should have a breakout game because of the blitz pressure, but not on the ground. He and DeMarco Murray should have ample opportunities to provide big defense deflating gains in the screen game with which Garrett should work effectively. Our screen game is what will keep the vaunted Jets defense at bay.
I'm sure Rex will have Witten covered throughout the game, but that hasn't stopped Witten from getting his in the past.
With Rob Ryan exposing his brothers scheme this should hopefully give us the edge we need to douse the hot Jets D.
-Boy's D VS Jets Offense-
Sanchez should have the same advantage of recognizing the scheme we now currently run. But it won't be as helpful to Sanchez as it will be for us. Sanchez struggles with his accuracy and decision making and our blitz happy D will expose Sanchez's deficiency's.
From the looks of the preseason (I know There were a few starting D-linemen out the entire preseason) our run D looks shaky at best, maybe it's the players getting used to the new scheme, who knows, but that will have to improve if we plan to force Sanchez to beat us with his decision making. If the Jets can open up their run game and feed off of play-action we are in for a long night on week one.
Holmes' quickness will present a challenge for our banged up corners. Hopefully Jenkins and Newman can get back whatever it was they lost last season and gain back their pro-bowl form of 09. But lets not kid ourselves Burress will present a problem if the Jets get into the redzone, with his long frame and jumping ability we can't afford to let him go to work on our DB's.
-Special Teams-
The Jets return ace Brad Smith is now gone but Cromartie remains a threat. If our defense is playing up to par we cannot allow any big momentum stealing plays from the Jets special teams.
Will Felix's starting role reduce his return duties? Will Dez return as many punts and kickoffs as last year seeing how he broke his ankle in this manner last season? Hopefully we have some new blood at return positions to prevent any injuries to our star players this season. If the offense is running on all cylinders then I'd prefer not to see them returning anything, only if the offense is sputtering and we need a spark would I put Jones or Bryant in to give us some juice.
-Prediction-
I do see a win here in our 1st game. The Jets D is awesome but we don't have to do alot of scoring against them seeing as their offense isn't the greatest to say the least. 14 to 17 points for our Offense/Special Teams should do it here.:beer2:
