Week 1 vs Jets Notes/Prediction

Is anybody mentioning the fact that Sanchez sucks? He's good for a couple of nice throws per game, and the rest he looks like a rookie.

I'll go us 27-20.

Our Defense could make any of us on this forum look like a good QB.

That's true, but maybe it would be different if our two "starting corners" could/would actually start. Injury or not I'm getting really sick of these two yahoo's!

Healthy or not they got a handful of practices between them since last season they're not going to just come back and play well.

The more i think about this season the more depressed i get

Looks like there are question marks on both teams o lines.

The Jets will run block better than they pass block.

I believe our pass rush will be more effective than the Jets. Can we stop their blitzes with our new OL? Will our RB's contribute as well in pass protection?

Stopping the run favors the Jets.

Holmes & Burress vs our secondary is an advantage as opposed to Bryant & Austin vs Cromartie & Revis.

We're gonna have to control this game through the air featuring Witten, Jones, & Murray. Exploit their blitzes with screens.

We have to get some wins with DB & MA in the deep passing game.

If we are to win, our pass rush is going to have to be dominant. Just dont know how many opportunities we'll get

I like the Jets because of our inability to stop the run and our secondary issues. I think they'll limit our pass rush by getting managable situations with too many 2nd & 3rd and 1's and 2's.

The Jets will control the clock and win 24-13

Oh, get real. If you think the Cowboys are going to win the game, fine, but don't say dumb things like this. Go look at the receivers he shut down in 2009 and the second half of 2010.

Reggie Wayne caught 111 balls in the regular season last year and then had one catch for one yard against Revis in the playoffs.

One catch. One yard.

Thank you.

I went to their humble forum. They seem mostly reasonable. Except they swallow the whole "Romo isn't good under pressure" thing that has been repeated often enough-- apparently-- to become accepted as truth.

Of course we know that when Romo is improvising, scrambling, and yes, under pressure, he is at his very best. It's always has been his best attribute as a QB. It doesn't mean he can overcome being planted into the turf, so the green OL will need to give him SOME time, but look for a steady diet of screens to Felix and Murray to ameliorate what I think will be inevitable pressure from the middle and once or twice from Smith's flank. They've been working on this all TC probably more than any other play and have the horses to run it effectively. I'm really looking forward to Murray's here role as this season unfolds. Hopefully he is getting his stamina and explosiveness back where it should be.

I think our young offensive line is going to get roughed up. I think Rex will take Witten out of the game to a certain extent by creating pressure that will require Witten to stay-in and block. The Jets may or may not get to Romo for sacks, but I think Romo will be pressured constantly.

I also think our starting CBs (Jenkins and Newman) are going to have one or two big mental gaffs having not played all preseason and limited practice reps.

I think we'll be pretty competitive but lose. No score prediction.

I don't like the aspects of Dallas winning this game, the defense has been a disaster thus far and I don't think just saying its preseason makes up for the fact that this team has had only about five weeks to install Ryans defense and the preseason displayed gapping holes in it along with players looking around not knowing where to line up..

The offensive line is young and inexperienced and the Jets will look to throw everything at them and there's going to be some mistakes.

I'm looking at the Jets winning 28, cowboys 17

Everyone is gonna have to bring their A game to get this one. Hopefully the DLine is ready to go. If you're able to slow their ground attack, you stand a good chance.

Bunch of idiots on the Jets board. They are high if they think there defense is going to hold our offense to 10 points or less. That stadium will be fired up and the enthusiasm will be crazy but on the other hand this team has played in a lot of Nationally televised games on hostile territory. The Cowboys actually play some of their best football in those games as well.

There are idiots on every board, including this one, as demonstrated by earlier comments in this thread suggesting that Revis isn't that good.

The Jets may have to hold the Cowyboys to 17-20 points or fewer to win the game. Will they do it? I don't know. Predicting week 1 games is nearly impossible unless the game involves a top-5 team playing a bottom-5 team. And that's not what we have here, so . . .

I think 17-20 points may very well win the game. The new kickoff rule and no offseason should keep scoring down.

A couple of other posters said it right - more likely than not, whoever Revis is covering will not be thrown at.

That's the respect every team gives to him. I watched Reggie Wayne have one catch for 4 yards in the divisional round of the playoffs this past year against us, and that was the only time he was targeted after recording 111 catches for 2nd in the NFL in receptions during the regular season.

If Peyton Manning stays away from Reggie Wayne because of a DB, you know that DB is great.

Besides - I've seen Revis absolutely shut down Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson - and I think if we're being objective (or as objective as fans can be) we can agree that the two of them are better than Miles Austin?

I don't think the confidence on your guys part about this game is a misguided, by no means. I just think when it comes to this particular debate, i.e. Austin v Revis, some of you just don't know Revis. Austin is a proven #1 WR in this league and I would say top 15 at his position. Revis is the best cornerback since Deion Sanders... and he specializes in taking the opponents best receiver out of the game.

That said, we've only got 6 days now till we can all see how the chips fall. No injuries!
EXAMPLE: 1994 2 games Irvin vs Sanders 20 catches, 286 yards, 2tds
Anything can happen, but if Romo decided to challenge Revis, Jets better hope he's not covering Dez.
We wont make a living throwing that way, but the Cowboys arent going to be afraid to throw his direction if the coverage is right.

I'm a big Revis fan and I've seen a lot of him since his days at Pitt, but he's not the best since Deion.

That would be Champ Bailey.

But he's in the conversation.

Funny they are generalizing the talent based on draft pick; 'Doug Free - 7th round' etc.. never mind he graded out as 7th best LT in the league last year and that Dallas' UDFA beat out a multi pro bowl center that was graded in the top 60 best players in the NFL last year. :)

But anyway....
I would give their defense the edge over Dallas' offense because they are a great defense- in fact the only thing lacking are the edge rushers were I think Dallas is strong at on the o-line (the tackles)

Their offense is a turd surrounded by diamonds. They've put all this talent around Sanchez, and the guy sucks half the time despite his defense and o-line, running game and receivers.
If Sanchez happens to play well this time they can take advantage. If he plays like he often does they will probably struggle just relying on a run game.
Turnovers will be big in this game because of the matchups and especially because of the home field advantage they will have.

They should win and if they don't, it will be GREAT.

Bryant is a very talented guy. Everyone knows that. But Revis routinely shuts down better, more-established receivers. Do you really think Bryant is better than Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, and Reggie Wayne right now?

Bryant has the talent to become a top-5 receiver, but Revis on anyone is a matchup that favors the Jets.

If the Jets put Cromartie on Bryant, they won't even need to test Revis.:p:

We have some question marks on defense and offense, and every team will test our young OL, you can bet. But if Romo gets out of the pocket and pulls the trigger on some long throws to Dez, I'm fairly confident our man Dez will come down with the ball, whoever is trying to cover him. Austin may or may not get good separation, but Dez doesn't need much. Give him a couple chances to make plays, and I feel good about this matchup...

For my part, its on Garretts shoulders offensivsly. With the young OLine vrs the jet DLine. Does he have enough screens to the rb built in off of deep patterns to Dez/Miles/Witten to keep the Jets D blitz pak honest.

Then has he built in, again to help the OLine--with 2 TE, moving the pocket right or Left and allowing Romo to set up against a blitz pak that should leave Dez/Austin in 1on 1 coverage with enough time to run a crossing pattern.

I dont think he can continuously allow this young Oline to slug it out face to face against the Jets D. He's gotta take control of the tempo, not with trick plays, but with Karate'equse plays that use what the Jets like to do against them, and yet play into our strengths---which is getting Felix and Murrey into the open field via screens and Witten/Dez/Miles 1 on 1 with time to separate to squeeze the ball in for Tony.

No not yet. The one matchup i'd like to see is Revis vs Fitzgerald, primarily because Fitzgerald will catch EVERYTHING even when he's being shadowed. That guy has the best ball skills/hands I have ever seen. Every time he goes for the ball, he wins.
