The only real exception to that was against the Patriots, and that's largely because since Moss left, they don't really have a #1 and the ball is spread around so much - plus we play a lot more zone against the Patriots because we need to mix it up and try to confuse Brady ~ it worked in the playoffs last year.
For what it's worth from my perspective, Austin's route-running is far more polished than Dez, and that type of precision could eat up Cromartie. Plus Cro's athleticism and size actually make him a solid matchup v Dez, although I just worry if Dez does catch the pass and we have to count on Cro to tackle him...![]()
If I was a betting man, I'd say it's Revis on Austin. Dez is clearly the better talent, but he's still too young and raw to be considered a bigger threat than Austin in my opinion.
On top of all that, I'd say Witten gets the most targets in this game. He's the guy I'm scared of the most in this game. Cromartie, while people have a lot of opinions about him either way it would seem, actually played great last year for us and I expect him only to get better as he gets used to our system.
But we have no linebacker or safety that can handle Witten, is my point. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had a big game regardless of the final score - which I put at 20-16 in favor of the Jets : ). Our D will propel us to win the turnover battle and that will decide the game... in my opinion.
Welcome. Nice to read an opposing fan's thoughts.
Can't wait to see Revis against Austin or Dez and am very interested to see how thew Jets play it and of course how it plays out.
I think Revis against Dez makes the most sense. Dez's lack of experience could be killer and then you you could give cromartie extra help against Austin.
But I don't think the Jets go that way. In fact, after looking over the Jets, I believe there are some opportunities to exploit a couple areas of the Jet strength.
Revis and Ferguson. When you have players of this caliber, you get used to maximizing that talent. I.E. Revis plays a lot of man against great WRs and Ferguson probably never gets help.
I believe Austin's greatest asset is his ability to uncover. We talked about this a lot. He's somewhat unorthodox the way he plays/runs routes and it creates problems. I think he'll uncover against Revis as well as anyone has in recent seasons.
I love Ware against Ferguson one on one for 25 or more pass plays. Perhaps 8-10 in obvious passing situations. If that plays out Ware will get his pressures, hits and sacks and that could be the difference in the game.
The Jets are the better, more proven team and they're home. There's a reason they're a 4 point fav.
If I'm taking a 4 point road dog to win out right, they better have the better QB. We do and it's why I like our chances.
