The Eagles fist logo was taken from Franklin D. Roosevelt's National Recovery Act logo. That logo was the inspiration for their mascot.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been in the NFL since 1933. They were originally called the Frankford Yellow Jackets, but that franchise went bankrupt in 1931. They were out of football in 1932, then in 1933 the franchise was awarded to Bert Bell and Lud Wray.

Bert Bell was a true football man. He is credited with creating the NFL Draft. The first Draft was held in 1935 for the 1936 season. The very first player ever drafted was Jay Berwanger out of Chicago, by the Eagles. If Bert Bell could see the Draft today I bet he would smile. Bert Bell also was the Eagles Head Coach from 1936 to 1940.

Bell left the Eagles to be co-owner of the Steelers with Art Rooney. In reality Rooney sold the Steelers to a man named Alex Thompson. Then joined Bell with the Eagles and together they traded the Eagles for the Steelers.

During World War II the two teams joined to become the Steagles and then they separated back into 2 franchises after the War. Bell was the Head Coach of the Steelers or Steagles from 1941 to 1946 when he resigned to assume the office of Commissioner. He replaced Elmer Layden and became the first true powerful NFL Commissioner, a position that originally was called President. Layden was the first true Commissioner.

Bert Bell died in 1959 watching a game between the Eagles whom he co-founded, co-owned, and coached, and the Steelers whom he co-owned and coached until he stepped down to become Commissioner. Legend has it he died as the Eagles scored the winning touchdown. He had planned to resign as NFL Commissioner and resume ownership of the Eagles. It never happened. He was eventually replaced as Commissioner by Pete Rozelle.

Bell was one of the first inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. I believe he was the first member inducted posthumously. The Bert Bell Award is also named after him and is awarded annually to the Player of the Year. It awarded by the Maxwell Club which Bert Bell also founded. Three Dallas Cowboys have won this award. Don Meredith in 1966, Roger Staubach in 1971, and Emmitt Smith in 1993.

Alex Thompson succeeded Bell as owner of the Eagles. In 1949 Thompson sold the Eagles to a syndicate led by Leonard Tose. Tose was buying the 2 time NFL defending Champions. The first player drafted in the Tose era was Chuck Bednarik. He is quite possibly the greatest Eagle of all time. The very last of the 60 minute men who played both sides of the football. Concrete Charlie played on the lines, a true 2 way player.

Tose sold the Eagles to Norman Braman in 1985 and Braman sold the Eagles to current owner Jeffrey Lurie.

The Eagles won three NFL Championships. The first in 1948, a repeat in 1949, and they were the NFL Champions in Dallas' inaugural year of 1960, the year Bert Bell was hoping to resume ownership of the team from Tose. The Eagles have also played in 2 Super Bowls, but have lost both. The first was Super Bowl XV which they lost to the Raiders. They also lost Super Bowl XXXIX to the New England Patriots.

The Eagles are the 2nd team ever to play the Cowboys. A 25-27 loss for the Cowboys. The 1960 Cowboys were 0-11-1 on the season. But to lose by only 2 points to the eventual NFL Champion is pretty impressive. More proof of how special Tom Landry really was.

Beginning in 1961 the Eagles and Cowboys have been in the same Division and thus have played a home and away series every year except 1982 when the NFL strike eliminated the game in Philly.

The Cowboys lead the all time series 55-43. The Cowboys are 38-12 against the Eagles in Dallas.

The Cowboys have swept the season series 17 times. 1968 to 1972 the Cowboys won every game. Counting the win the the 2nd game of 1967 the Cowboys won 11 games in a row for the longest win streak in the series. The Eagles longest win streak was the 2nd game of 1987 to the first game of 1991. An 8 game streak.

The Cowboys season sweeps happened in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2005, and 2009.

The Eagles have swept the season series 10 times. 1961, 1964, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006.

This game will be played on Sunday Night Football which began in 2006. The Cowboys are the most successful team on Sunday Night Football with an 10-5 record. Bill Parcells was 2-2, Wade Phillips was 8-3. This is the 4th time the Cowboys and Eagles have faced each other on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys are 2-1 against them in these games. The interesting thing about the game they lost to the Eagles on Sunday Night Football is that it was actually played on a Monday. It was on Christmas Day 2006. Even though it was played on a Monday, it was a Sunday night Football telecast.

If that's the case, can we count our playoff win against them because the same Sunday Night Football crew broadcast that game? That would give us a 3-1 advantage in NBC telecasts against the Eagles.

It always seemed like a love hate relationship when I lived there.

What do you expect from a crowd that cheers a future Hall of Famer lying on their turf, never again to play football? Or a crowd that throws battery laced snow balls at Santa around Christmas...

For the NFC East, this Sunday is a very important game. The Eagles have a tremendously talented offensive special skills group.

I like the rise of Sean Lee in the middle, as he is starting to make us forget about losing Burnett in packages. If Scandrick isn't on the field this weekend, the team will be hard pressed to put pressure on both Michael Vick and their receiving group.

I'm sorry Akwasi Owusu-Ausah isn't still active to reap some of the on carpet time in just these types of situations.

Tonight's game against the Eagles will be the 99th meeting between the 2 teams in the Regular season. The season finale will then be the 100th meeting.

The Giants and Cowboys have played 95 times in the Regular season. If you are wondering why there are fewer games against them it is because in 1967 and 1969 the Giants were in another division and the Saints were our division rival those years.

Next week, Washington becomes the first team we will have met 100 times in the Regular Season.

We have faced the Cardinals 84 times, Christmas Night will be the 85th meeting.

Thought this might interest you for some odd reason. Sorry to bump the thread to share it.

And won't this be the second meeting the Cowboys and Cardinals will have faced off on Christmas night? The last time was in 1995, when Dallas clinched homefield advantage in their last SB season, and Emmitt set the, then, single season touchdown record. Dallas won 38-13, and sent Buddy Ryan out of football for good.
