1. Jaylon Smith is now our best linebacker. Go ahead and @ me....

2. You don't need lots of film break downs to use common sense. Dallas opened up offense and used read option with great results. 2 TE stuff still looks rough because you don't have any tight ends.

3. DAL controlled this game with a dominant defensive performance. Outside trouble corraling Barkley on 2 yard pass plays they did everything else exceptionally well.

4. Saquon Barkley is a stud but using that pick on a RB looks like a very bad move for NYG. VERY.

5. Does Eli have CTE? I say this half in jest but reality is those facial expression memes and sometimes odd plays are kinda scary. Mental health is worth protecting.

6. Bryon Jones better buy Kris Richard a very nice gift when he gets that new contract. BJ31 went from a package guy at times last year to a top 3 potential FA CB. He is going to be a very rich man. This is his political warchest he is building so maybe one day he names a street or day after Richard, lol.

7. Michael Gallup looks to me like most rookie WRs. A very real work in progress but one with insane upside. Assuming rookie WRs hit ground running is always a suckers bet.

8. 1st place, 1st place, 1st place. Eagles are who we thought they were. Old players get injured. Old teams underachieve.

9. Snacks Harrison is a stud. Kind of 1T Cowboys fans have been clamoring for YEARS. But Zeke had 79 yards rushing, Barkley had 29. I don't even know who played 1YT for DAL. Maybe fans overrate the position?

10. Taco is going to be a really good player. May be already. 1 sack, 1 stuff, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble recovery last night. And he's never been suspended. And he's under team control for years. Hopefully fans can appreciate that and let go of old biases.

Huh?

Thanks for the observations. In Giants case I agree about Barkley. They'll be in need of a franchise B shortly.
Is Lee going down?

1) Maybe. Lee is still pretty good.

2) Dallas' scripted plays worked. Then they fell into their comfort zone in the middle part of the game and it was blah. Then later they went back to some of the earlier read option stuff. The play calling is still suspect at times.

3) Barkley is one slippery dude. Everyone seemingly missed first contact with him.

4) Agreed

5) Eli has always made weird faces, even back in college.

6) Agreed.

7) Rookie WRs rarely make big impacts so it was a lot for people to claim he was going to be a stud for us this year and would mitigate talent issues we have at WR.

8) Its two games. Eagles likely get Wentz back this week and Jeffery soon as well. I wouldn't close the book on Philly just yet. They get the Colts at home and we have to go to Seattle, so 1st place might be a short stay for us.

9) OLs probably played a factor. Even with our issues last night, our OL is and was much better than NY's last night.

10) The hate on Taco was always peculiar. I didn't like the pick but was at least willing to give him a couple of years to see what he had.

Well said.
Will need to keep the aggressive play calling until the OL gels.

BJones has a future in politics. Presumably that's the question?

Jones, an economics major, has interned for both Connecticut's House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz and U.S. Representative Elizabeth Esty in Washington D.C., according to the AP. Jones first became interested in government through conversations with Aresimowicz, who was his AAU basketball coach. "It was an eye opening experience," Jones told the AP in 2013. "I went to hearings, briefings, took notes on behalf of the congresswoman. I gave tours of the U.S. Capitol. It was fascinating."

This is a good post and I agree with most of it. IMO, Lee is still the best LB on the team--pretty easily. I know it's fashionable on this site to knock Lee these days. And he hasn't gotten off to his best start.

I am a fan of Jaylon Smith, and he looks good so far--much better than last year.

FWIW, combining last weeks Pro Football Focus' grades with initial their gradings this week, Vander Esch rates as the 10 highest graded LB in the league. Smith 30th, and Lee 46th.

They appear to consider a minimum of 40 snaps after two weeks when ranking players positionally--Vander Esch had 44 snaps after two weeks, and is included. Wilson with 35 combined snaps, isn't included in the rankings.

If you completely disregard number of plays, for Cowboys LBers, Joe Thomas grades the best, but has only played 17 snaps over two weeks.

Interesting. He needs to work on his name recognition through consistent performance on the field.

The defensive tackles for Dallas, who would have thought, are showing up as well...

Thomas is invaluable as depth...and what a group of linebackers. Lee will be getting into game type shape again, within another game or two.

I love Lee, a fellow Penn Stater, but that was another lackluster performance. Too many missed tackles.

I agree Jaylon was better and LVE is nipping at his heels. Hate to see my favorite players regress.

Lee looks like a guy who either hasn't practiced enough (possible) or who injuries have caught up to so he's not nearly athletic as he was (also possible). I think he'll get better, but LVE and Jaylon are pretty clearly the better athletes.

LVE played better than Jaylon and Jaylon played well.

Nothing wrong with loving Lee but reality is he is an aging oft-injured player.
He missed 5 games last year.

Jaylon is a bigger, younger, healthier, faster player at this point. Right now he's LB1 for Dallas.
He's plays 88+% of the DEF snaps, leads you in tackles and generally is your most physical backer by a wide margin.

Lee is going to be a tremendous coach one day and I am hoping it isn't really soon but if he can't stay healthy enough to even knock rust off nowadays that's not a great sign. His mind is elite and he could be a huge key for this defense but I'm not sure they'll ever count on him as LB1 again.

LVE played better than Jaylon and Jaylon played well.
LVE has only played on 1/3 of the defenses snaps but he looks like he'll see that total rise.
The 5 man LB Corps is really, really good.
Thomas, Wilson can play too to go with obvious Jaylon, Lee, LVE.

LVE really impressed me with how easily he tackled Barkley. He had enough size and length that he was just able to tackle him unlike the comedy of errors most guys saw.

Byron Jones isn't elite. Chido is closer. I'd give Byron a decent offer with incentives for takeaways.

Presumably this would be local stuff in Connecticut, at least at first.
Being a Cowboy never stops being relevant so he has a good start with America's team.

Don't have to be elite to make a gazillion dollars playing CB, see Brandon Carr.

Best CBs to hit FA look like Verrett(local kid who's always injured), Ronald Darby (who has weird Jamies Winston sex fetish it seems. lol), Brad Roby and BJones.

IF you are a top 2/3 CB in free agency you will get PAID.

SEA let a string of those guys go and maybe DAL does as well as they do have Jourdan Lewis on ice so could move Brown back outside.

But BJones will be a very wealthy man one way or another and he can thank Richard.

The reason i felt they wanted LVE, to replace Lee. Sadly it might be sooner than all expected. Heres to hoping Lee will become a coach.

I agree. Their play has taken the sting off of Hitchens doing really well with KC.
