In the Army, we do these little things after training & missions called After-Action Reviews, better known as "AARs." We go around the room or the huddle and ask the troops for three sustains and three improves, or more commonly "3 Ups, 3 Downs."
So, in the spirit of our football team being similar to the "ultimate team" (The US Army, hooah) give me your 3 Ups and 3 Downs from Week 3!
3 Ups
- Tony Romo. I've been in class all day so I haven't turned on ESPN yet, but I wonder what they're saying now. The guy has some stones the size of the Rock of Gibraltar.
- Abram Elam. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what good safety play looks like. I've said it in a few other threads, I think he's quietly the best free agent signing this year league-wide.
- The Defense. I thought that they would take until mid-season to get into top form. They've played very well, allowing only 6 offensive touchdowns in 12 quarters of play. I'm even more impressed by the younger "depth" players' ability to come in and make a play when their number gets called, like Victor Butler's sack this week, or Danny McCray's sack a week ago.
3 Downs
- Tashard Choice. I'm officially done. I think Hostile said that he would have cut him on his trot to the sideline after running out of bounds. This is now two critical mistakes he's made against our most hated rival, along with generally doing absolutely nothing on offense. The only difference here is he didn't cost us points that would give away the game.
- Kevin Ogletree. Does he read his playbook, ever? Does he participate in practice? He made a good catch in the 4th quarter but I'm pretty sure he cut his route too short, causing the ball to be thrown behind him. Two routes he blew that could have led to 14 points. I think Jesse Holley and Dwayne Harris should get a long look this week, along with Laurent Robinson.
- The offensive line. They were, well, offensive. I don't think it will be too long before we see Kevin Kowalski at Center. Costa has done okay anchoring, and even though the early snaps weren't wholly his fault, the off-target snaps surely are. Every time we're in shotgun he seems to snap it to the left or right of Tony's waiting hands, or at his feet, or in his face. It's like Andre Gurode got vitiligo and snuck back in with a new jersey on.
