There isn't a lot of History to the Carolina Panthers to get you all primed for this week's matchup. The main reason is because they are such a relatively new team in comparison to the majority of the NFL.

The team is owned by Jerry Richardson. Jerry Jones is one of a few owners who played college football. Jerry Richardson played in the NFL for the Baltimore Colts. He was a WR and his playing career only lasted 2 years. There is no doubt though that Jerry Richardson is a business magnate. He is the co-founder of a food conglomerate that includes Denny's and Hardees among other ventures.

In the History of the Carolina Panthers they have had 3 head Coaches. Dom Capers, George Seiffert, and John Fox. The Panthers all time record is 109-117 and they are 6-4 in the post season including a trip to Super Bowl XXXVIII where they ultimately lost to the New England Patriots.

The Cowboys and Panthers have had a brief but memorable History. The Panthers won the first ever matchup of the two teams. The Cowboys have won the last 7 matchups for their longest current winning streak against any of the other 31 teams. The Cowboys hold a 7-1 regular season advantage where they are 4-1 at home and 3-0 at Carolina.

However, the post season is all Panthers. The teams have met twice with the Panthers winning both matchups.

The series has been comprised mostly of nail biter finishes. Only 2 of the games in the regular season have been by more than 7 points. The Panthers won the first one in 1997 10 points, and the Cowboys won in 2006 by 21 points. The Cowboys average score in the series is 19.1, the Panthers are at 15.4 points average. In other words just over 3 points per game usually separate these two teams.

The two teams have only met one other time on Monday Night Football, the very first matchup won by the Panthers.

The Cowboys are 6-1 all time on September 28. They won the first 6 times, but lost the last time they played on this date. That was last year to the Commanders. The Cowboys first ever overtime game was played on September 28 in 1975 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

It oughta be fun.

I prefer to take positives out of Sunday Night and go foward instead of rehashing how bad we played.

-If our Oline stays healthy and continues their play, this team will go FAR.
-Romo will not have another game like that this year. Book it.
-Our defense will only improve
-If we can play that poorly and only lose by 2 to the New York Giants, we're a good team.

That loss stings and will not be forgotten much like several other losses this team has had recently, but we're going to be okay.

I like our chances Monday.

Thank you. I know for the most part these threads are ignored, but I always hope someone gets something out of one line here or there. Griping, whining, and finger pointing are more fun for most. I wish their crap didn't bother me and I would just post football only related stuff. I can't help it when it's so stupid.

If we lose this game, I'd suggest not even turning your computer on till the next one. :laugh2:

Thanks Hos. Some interesting tidbits in there... and I also agree that we will take some positives out of the Giants loss.

Always great stuff Hos! Always keep 'em coming. I think there's a lot of us "someone's" here that always gets that "something" here and there. Love these posts bud - Always a great read - Thanks!

You know what this Monday Night Panthers game is? The PERFECT opportunity.

Its Monday Night in new home so it has element os of being "big"

Chance to come back and play well for first win at new home

A team with a weekend run defense due to injury, so it is the perfect way to work into the new run first / safe passing attack

They have danagerous WR's but a mistake prone QB so you could step up and make plays or get embarassed again

They have talented RB's and a respected OLine, so you can prove your mettle against the run and pass - or get lit up and exposed

3 games is no season defining stretch, but we will know a hell of alot about this squad late Monday night.

Our secondary will play better, our pass rush might be more simple with a guy like Williams back there but I will take turnovers vs sacks any day. Tony will shine and TChoice will roll.

They do seem to go ignored by all of the mutants around here, but I really enjoy them -- as I say each week, these should be stickied from the time they go up until the clock hits 0:00 on the game for that week. I've always enjoyed history, learning and reading, but I never did like history class because I didn't like being graded on regurgitating selected information that was supposed to be important rather than genuinely taking in what I felt was important to me.

Thanks again, Hos!

My first post since the game. I re-watched it and came away with the following set of truths/beliefs. No new insight here- I think everything I saw has long been called out by others. My take may only be different becuase, for some reason, I see the net of the facts as a reason for optimism:

  • Our O-Line is playing incredibly well
  • Our special teams are vastly improved (less Felix's fumble), especially field position and tackling
  • Romo's problem thru two games has been accuracy, not poor decisions or recklessness that fuel the "same-old-Romo" crowd. He's just missing open receivers. Tampa stats were inflated due some long catch & runs, masking a mostly bad first half; Witten pass in Giants game was accuracy problem, Exhibit A; Long INT wasn't close enough for Hurd to make a play on; and on the pick-6, I'm still not convinced Romo wasn't going for Crayton, not Roy. Either way, misfire, not miscue.
  • Nevertheless, he put the team in position to win and it was the gassed defense that gave up the game. I didn't see a prevent-only on the last drive. I saw pressure that didn't quite get there and an exposed middle of the field- just like in the first three quarters.
  • We gameplanned to can the Giants' run and make Eli beat us with unproved receivers. He did.
  • Our DBs were exposed in man. Forced to give cushion and chase WRs across the field, they couldn't play a ball in the air because they needed that time to make up ground on the WR.

I feel like we played an extreme version of man defense too often in the Giants game and got burned for it by an efficient QB. But listening to Ratliff and Romo and others, and knowing how talented this team is, I feel very good about this game. Not the season, mind you. I've got major concerns about Wade's ability to lead. But for this game, I think a proud, focused team will execute and lay a beating on the Panthers.
