Well, let’s give it up for Philly. They wanted it more and they made the plays to win. This game meant a lot more to them. I would never have believed that this Dallas defense would give up 383 yards total with 354 yards to McNabb. Just have to tip your hat on this one.

Then again, the Eagles are used to winning their Super Bowls in October. They sure don’t know how to win them in January or February.

So how can I rationalize this to make us Cowboy fans feel better?

Philly scored their first TD on a short field thanks to butterfingers McBriar. I guess that muffed snap doesn’t go against his average. A twelve-yard drive is tough to blame on the defense. Especially in that frenzied environment. To me, this TD is credited to Dallas’ special teams. L.P. Ladouceur sure didn’t have his best day.

Philly’s FG came on a fumble due to Darwin Walker not being blocked. At least the defense held them to three points. Ware got away with a hold on L.J. Smith also.

Hey, if you give any team their second and third drives on the 12 and 14 yardline respectively, you are asking to get your butts kicked.

Philly’s second TD came courtesy of a Roy Williams blown coverage.

Philly’s third TD came on a designed blitz that Greg Ellis whiffed on…then Watkins whiffed later.

Philly’s fourth TD came on a flea flicker that Watkins actually had coverage on, but didn’t make the play. I agree with Aikman that Roy took a bad angle as well.

Philly’s fifth TD came on a Bledsoe bull’s-eye to Lito.

What do all of these instances have in common folks?

A HUGE play was involved in each of these.

In a normal game, how many HUGE plays like these do teams normally get? ONE. Two if you are lucky.

The point I am trying to make is the stars were lined up for the Eagles on this day. To their credit, the play of their defense, and their raucous crowd, enables them to take advantage of their opportunities. Despite all of the big plays they got, Dallas was still in it until the last minute (poet and don’t know it). Despite the horrendous day Drew Bledsoe and the offensive line had, the Cowboys had a chance to tie.

What plays irritated me the most?

I’ll start off with getting stuffed on 3rd and one in the third quarter. Everybody KNEW Philly was sending the house. Why not fake the handoff and flip it over the line to a tight end? Don’t you think that would have kept them on their heels a little?

How about the first interception by Lito? If there was ever a play that should tell you that Drew Bledsoe is not a big game QB, this is it. Owens was sooooooo open! What kind of a shockwave would that had sent throughout the Linc had that pass been completed? How would that have changed to outcome of the game?

Then of course, there was the game-sealer bulls’-eye to Lito. Hey, do not give me this garbage that Witten got crossed up. Even if he did, LITO WAS STILL STANDING THERE! SO WHAT GOOD WOULD THAT HAVE DONE! That was a classic Drew Bledsoe choke job!

Offensive line? To say the least, they had troubles. There were many blown assignments. Not all of those seven sacks were on them, as Drew holds the ball for too long. However, it wasn’t just the sacks. It was also hurried throws and arm hits that directly led to two of the five turnovers. It is Julius Jones getting nailed four yards back by Darren Howard as Flozell whiffed. Let’s just credit Jim Johnson and the outstanding he and his defense did on the most important day for the Eagles in a quarter of a century.

Final Analysis:

Over the past four years, Bill Parcells has done a magnificent job reviving this franchise from the dregs of the Campo years to what it is today. Jerry Jones spent eight years tearing it down from the time Jimmy left; to the day he hired Parcells. This team has gone almost full circle on all areas of the team.

I am not going to rip the secondary much as the sun doesn’t shine on the same dog’s *** everyday.

The one thing that I will harp on is Drew Bledsoe. Time and time again, he goes into hostile environments, in big games, and comes up lame. This has been going on with him for a decade and a half now. At least Danny White had a couple of big games on the road where he played well and came out victorious. Bledsoe hasn’t done that during his stay in Dallas yet. The one big game on the road where Dallas won on Bledsoe’s watch (Carolina last season) was won due to Ware and Julius Jones.

So at what point do you find another dog to successfully hunt down the bird?

Dallas isn’t going anywhere with Bledsoe.

Oh, I see that point. If this game was played in Dallas, the Cowboys run away with this. No way does NcNabb get all of those big plays.

This was their Super Bowl, bottom line. In October as usual.
