With the Jacksonville Jaguars getting started in 1995 there simply isn't much History of theirs to share with you. I'll do my best to scrape something together though.
The Jaguars are owned by Wayne Weaver. He made his fortune in the shoe business. He is their first and only owner. When the NFL added the Panthers and Jaguars they expanded from 28 teams to 30. It was the first expansion since 1976 when the NFL went form 26 to 28 by adding the Seahawks and Buccaneers. The Browns and Texans are the only teams younger in NFL terms than the Jaguars though the Browns got to keep their team records from prior History.
The Jaguars first head coach was Tom Coughlin, now the Head Coach of our week 7 assassins, the Giants. Coughlin spent 8 seasons in Jacksonville. Jack Del Rio, a former Cowboys LB replaced him as Head Coach in 2003, the same year we got Parcells. He remains in place as the Jags Head Coach.
This is the 5th meeting between the two squads and 4th time the game is in Dallas. The series is tied 2-2, we are 2-1 in Dallas. The 4 games have all been very close. The last time we played was the opening game of the 2006 season and Drew Bledsoe's follies and led to fans to clamor for Tony Romo o finally get his chance. It would come later that season.
In their short existence the Jaguars have made the playoffs 6 times. They are 5-6 all time in the post season. They made the playoffs for the first time in their 2nd NFL season of 1996, where they made it all the way to the AFC Championship. That season is still referred to as their miracle season.
The Jaguars first ever draft pick was OT Tony Boselli. Similar to the Dallas Cowboys and their first ever draft pick, Bob Lilly, the Jaguars will never again issue the #71. Boselli is the only player in the Jaguars Ring of Honor, inducted in 2006. Jimmy Smith is widely considered to be their next honoree.
This game is the 7th time the Cowboys will play on Halloween. They have had 3 treats and been tricked 3 times. This year the Cowboys will play games on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They never have done this in their 51 seasons.
Like I said, there isn't much to give you a primer for on this game.
I will give you an update on my Mom since so many of you have been great to me on her health issues. She has improved enough to be discharged from the hospital back to the nursing home. That happened about an hour ago.
She originally was going to be coming home to the apartment I got for her yesterday. They now expect her to be in the nursing home for 6 to 7 more weeks. Thank you all again for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers for her.
