MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR! Isn’t it great! I had to go to the sports restaurant with my girls to watch the game as I was in Saints land here in Gulfport, MS. Oh yes; I was told on numerous occasions how great the Saints are. A couple of them even came out with a few “Undefeated” bombs. They reminded me how much better Brees was than Romo. I just shook my head and snickered. I cannot wait to go to work today and hear more of the same.
As for the Cowboys, their 50th opening game netted them a 34-21 victory. This give Dallas a 34-15-1 opening game record (69%) as they finish off their first half-century with their 3rd in a row. This win did not go without some concerns.
Let’s start off by giving Tampa much credit. They were certainly game. That offensive line in pewter played very well. So well that is has given many a Cowboys fan concern over the play of the Cowboy defense. Leftwich had way too much time to throw. Couple that with holes being broken in the middle of the Cowboy defensive line, and that will most likely lead to trouble.
And the ball was pretty much bouncing Tampa’s way evidence by the bobbled punt going right back into the Buccaneer gut, and coming up with the fumble on the botched snap later in the game. Sensabaugh had his helmet and shoulder in the right place when he and Clayton collided. It is just that it seemed that Sensabaugh just wedged the ball deeper into Clayton’s gut.
Dallas was able to cover that up with some great QB protection of their own. Dallas’ big plays all resulted in big points. I loved how the ball got spread around. Romo had a career day despite overthrowing two bombs earlier in the game, and not getting Felix Jones involved much.
What I did NOT like:
Defense – They got gashed pretty good, and if you let Leftwich freelance like he did on those dump-off passes, then what happens when a better quarterback is back there? Wade has to fix this PRONTO!
Offensive Running Game: It was shaky until the very end. Good to see Dallas run the ball when they had to. The two-TE set is nice, but Dallas still needs a blocking fullback.
What I DID like:
Special Teams! – COWBOYS BLOCKED A FIELD GOAL! Dallas had THREE TOUCHBACKS! McBriar BOOMED several of those punts! The only bad thing was Crayton kicking the ball out-of-bounds, but I would rather have the penalty than to possibly lose the ball. Overall: NICE JOB!
