Weird Jerry

Can I just say that no matter how this turns out, it is the weirdest hiring of a head coach I've ever witnessed? What owner goes out and starts hiring coaching staff members, gives them "fluid" titles, that is, we will start out with this one, but maybe I'll eventually give you this one, and then goes on interviewing person after person?

I love Jerry for his passion and that he puts his money into the team. I hate Jerry for how he makes a mockery of how difficult the football side of things really is.

Jerry's problem throughout his entire time as owner of the Cowboys is that he wants to see himself as a "football man". It is comparable to what I might do playing Madden Football if it included the hiring of a head coach.

If it is true that Rivera has already agreed to the Assistant HC/DC title and is also interviewing for the possibility of being HC, it is the most bazaar way of approaching the hiring of a head coach in the history of the NFL.

Again IF that is true, and it is a big IF, I don't even think that Al Davis has outdone that one. Oh, sorry, I forgot that Al actually coached his team.

Jerry had only a very limited time to grab Garrett, a guy he clearly wants in the Organization, who else has he hired yet?. I give Jerry credit, he's picking the minds of some of the league's best assistant's- Phillips, Turner, Caldwell, Riveria.

The only coach Jerry has brought in before his head coach is Garrett right? I think this more a matter of Parcells' retirement. Jerry, in my opinion hired Garrett because he and Parcells already wanted to bring him in. Parcells retires and it doesn't change his opinion of Garrett just makes it odd that he is being hired before the HC. Not to mention he supposedly interviewed Garrett for the HC job. Garrett, per all reports, was a hot coaching commodity that was going to be off the market if Jones didn't jump on him. I don't think it is as crazy as some believe.

Did I miss something? I thought the only hire that Jerry has made is Jason Garrett. One guy. He didn't staff every assistant position. Just one. It is a bit weird, but it isn't totally out of place. Garrett had to take on a new title in order for Dallas to get him. The NFL really doesn't like lateral moves, so naming him offensive coordinator made sense. More sense than a dual title of quarterbacks coach/assistant head coach.

Parcells had weird titles with running game coordiantor and passing game coordinator. There have been plenty of teams that hired new head coaches and asked those guys to retain some of the assistants already on staff.

I can see where you are both coming from. But why do you interview Garrett under the "heading" that he might be the head coach? And why do you continue to say he is in the running?

And remember, I said, if Rivera has already agreed in principle to be the DC, and now is going through his HC interview, as some have reported, wouldn't you agree that is strange?

I mean, imagine if you end up with Turner, Rivera, Garrett and Caldwell all here and they were ALL in the running for HC. That would create a rather strange dynamic afterwards in my opinion.

It produces a dynamic where Jerry is ultimately the guy and all these "coaches" are just doing their little parts of the job, with Turner (using my example) as a manager/figure head.

Jerry is going through this process exactly how I want him to, nice and easy and talking to all the credible prospects that he can, so what if he hired Jason Garett before the HC? every HC candidate has no problem w/ it

The dolphins made sure they kept dom capers as defensive coordinator, before they hired cam cameron. They also took about 2 weeks before hiring a coach. Jerry has everyone on pins and needles, and the mediots can't stand it. Jerry will not give into these clowns. This decision is to important, exhaust every option jerry. I dont care if it takes another week.

It's not the timing of it, nor the thorough nature of it that I don't like. I don't mind at all, in fact I was really pleased with, the hiring of Garrett. But why continue to say he is in the running for the HC position? Just feels strange to me.

It is a little strange, but one of the strangest belongs to the Jets in 1999.. Parcells retires and teh Jets name Belichek as the head coach. He then says he doesn't want the job and the Jets settle with Al Grogh. That was weird.

How about the Patriots in 1996? Parcells is secretly negotiating with the Jets for the head coaching position the week the Pats are preparing for the Superbowl.

Wait, I am starting to see a common thread here. I just can't quite figure it out.
