I sure prefer Ryan's swagger to Wade Phillips' "Oh whoa is me" attitude that he displayed last year. Phillips had no answers when his rushes didn't get home. He had no answers for his team. Big mistake to hire Phillips in the long run...
I think Rob Ryan will get the very best out of Terence Newman in 2011. I'm looking forward to Newman starting at LCB, not only in 2011, but in 2012 also. Rob Ryan thinks that Terence Newman is a really good football player (according to Eatman), and I agree with him.
Maybe, Rob Ryan thinks he can get Anthony Spencer to flash more dominance. Spencer is a good football player who has flashed dominance. He played better as the year wore on, too. Getting rid of Phillips helped him, I think. The Robert Quinn stuff needs to just stop, because Quinn is probably a better fit in the 43 and will most likely be gone by 9.
Don't push a safety in round number 2. Moore may combine his way too far out of Dallas' reach. 40 should have very good value at guard, center, and CB. This is a deep CB draft, and the CB will be a better value than the S in round 2.
If the draft fell like this, I would be very glad:
9. Tyron Smith OT USC
40.Stefan Wiesniewski C Penn State
71. Jason Pinkston OG Pittsburgh
Pinkston will play at 24, so if he fell to round 3, he could be a huge steal and possibly start at LG.
Drafting Tyron Smith is just like making a significant deposit into the bank accounts of Tony Romo, Felix Jones, Jason Witten, Miles Austin, and Dez Bryant. Smith puts those skill players in a better position to succeed and replaces the weakest player on the offensive line.
I listened to the show.
Mark Colombo should have been replaced in the 2009 draft. Why is he still on the team? They asked about Leonard Davis still being able to play. Well, Colombo should be an open and shut case. How much more evidence do people want? Drafting phone booth players like James Marten, Robert Brewster, and Sam Young isn't going to cut it. Marten was a poor man's Marc Colombo, except he wasn't as strong as Colombo used to be and was a 3rd round bust. Marten and Young lack athleticism. They are strictly phone booth players. Sam Young couldn't get on the field for the worst RT that I saw play in the NFL last year. Young is a poor man's Colombo, too (imo). Young lacks strength and will never be a real difference maker. Why is Colombo the template to start with?
The organization better wake up and start getting some blue-chip talent at offensive tackle to block the blue-chip talent pass rushers in the division. The Packers and Bears have blue-chip pass rushers inside the NFC, too. Smith could really open up the field and the playbook for Felix Jones. Tyron Smith could get Felix to the edge and in space with stretches, tosses, sweeps, screens, and power o. Running behind Smith would get Felix Jones to the second level, so he can explode. Smith could do the pulling along the line that Leonard Davis can't do consistently or good, especially on the goal-line. Smith is a very good run blocker and the best pass blocker in the draft, and a 20 year old OT, with RT experience and who projects to be a franchise LT, is a great value at 9. It couldn't be set on a tee any better for the Cowboys. Time will tell. Smith is literally a perfect fit and value for Dallas' old and fading fast offensive line.
The good organizations draft the players who fit their system, and they don't care how other teams or draft experts rate them. In Smith's case, some in the Cowboys organization might want to pay attention to how the rest of the NFL views Smith. Smith could start at RT effective immediately and anchor your offensive line for the next 12 years. He is even a better fit in Dallas at 9.
