regarding our own potential FAs, esp including Hamlin and Flo.

I guess we have 2 days to make a decision whether we franchise either one of these guys, or do we consummate a deal in the next two days?

I guess even if we don't franchise them by the 20th Feb, we still have until the 29th Feb to strike a deal, but that could be a huge risk if a risk doesn't get done.

I think things are really going to start picking up starting tomorrow.

Well, I am thinking that guys like K Davis may just go ahead and test FA, and frankly said, I'm not expecting him back.

Same for Reeves. I would be mildly surprised if he's back.

I don't see N Jones making the cut either by the time the new season rolls along.

I guess it WOULD surprise me is if neither Flo or Hamlin are re-signed or franchised by Feb 20th.

Davis wants to start so unless he doesn't get an offer to be the #1 SS on a team he's gone.

True, we can most likely cross him off the list.

This really only leaves Hamlin and Flo.

I would be surprised if both got away in FA.

Or FA that we have to focus on resigning to long term deals are Hamlin, Barber, and Canty. Getting Flo on a 4 or 5 year deal would be real nice as well.

Davis is gone cause we're not going to let him start but, at the same time, I'm going to be slightly surprised if anyone other than like an Arizona offers him such a chance.

Reeves i think will be back cause no one is giong to sign him for any kind of big money and he's not going to be able to start anywhere else, I don't think.

4/5 year deal for Flo is throwing money down the drain. Franchaise or transition tag him for a year and be done with it.

Hamlin probably wants a huge deal, I don't know if Dallas would be all about that. I don't know if he's worth the franchise tag either (though I don't have the numbers on that).

That would be a big hindrance to any of your offseason plans as you'd have like $12M tied up between Barber and Flo.

Sorry to break the news to you but Ken Hamlin is not going anywhere.

He is a leader on our defense now and he is smart and had a very good year. He is well liked by the organzation and he likes it here.

He will be back and I will say this, his new deal will not be prohibitve to anything the team wants to do going into next year.

I think franchising Hamlin is the way to go. Franchising Flo just isn't realistic IMO since it would take $9 Mil in cap space. If Flo can be signed to a REASONABLE 4 yr deal, I wouldn't be against it, but I'm not against Dallas moving on at the position either IF the staff thinks Free can cut it.

Franching Hamlin I believe would cost around $4.5 Mil, which puts Dallas in a nice barganing position w/ him. I know Jerry is generally against doing this, but ultimately this is a business and any deal Hamlin signed would likely be at an average of over $4 Mil a year anyway....might even exceed $5 MIl a year.

I think if we franchise anyone it will be Hamlin and only as a way to buy more time to sign him long term.

I agree with this.

I think we would franchise Hamlin before Flo.

The only way I'd see JJ franchising Flo is if JJ thought he could get a longer term, more reasonable deal done with him.

But I don't see JJ franchising Flo for 1-year with a $9mm cap hit. If he did that, the coaching staff have to be REALLY nervous with Free and McQ.

But between Hamlin and Flo, I think you've got to franchise the younger player who can hopefully play at a high level for another 5-6 years.

Give both to man boobs in Miami and a 4th rounder and exchange our No. 1 with Miami for the first pick in the draft.

Then we go into FA for a corner, safety and WR (Roy Williams).

Hamlin and Flo both have good years left and they fit in with man boob's rebuilding process (since he likes his former players everywhere he goes), plus man boobs does not want to pay No. 1 pick-in-the-draft money for anyone when he can pay No 28-in-the-draft money. Also, he could use our No. 4 to help rebuild that awful team. (look, you gotta give value to get value)

You can't include free agents in trades.

Hamlin is going nowhere, he and Jerry are Arkansas buds and it was rumored that Hamlin was even trying to do some "recruiting" at the Probowl for Jerry.

This does not sound like a guy looking to cash in with another team.

As for Flo, I dont see us giving him a 1 yr, $9 mill contract. I would offer a 3 yr deal and if that is not good enough then I say see ya. Between the $9 mill for Flo and the highest tender for Barber ($2.25 I think), that is almost $12 mill on 2 guys.

We still have Hamlin, Canty, and a pair of #1 picks. We would basically have no money left for free agency or trades.

My best guess is we sign Hamlin to 4 or 5 yr deal and let Flo walk. Our options at LT then are Free, McQuiston, move Columbo, move Bigg. At least we have some options.
