1(28) Taco Charlton DE Michigan - He figured at that spot and I like his length. He's a true 4-3 end but I question whether he's a RE. Maybe he's a different kind of RE who wins with power and leverage rather than quick twitch. The grade gets dinged for passing on Reuben Foster. Grade: B-

Favorite picks by round

1st round - Reuben Foster, 49ers
At 31? Cmon, man. Malik Hooker and Johnathan Allen deserve mentions too. Insane value.

I'm guessing Foster possibly missing the entire season does not bother you? Obviously not as serious an injury as Jaylon's, but the team definitely wanted someone capable of contributing this year, exactly what they said in the post round 1 interview. Taco having a clean medical history meant a lot to them. You can definitely argue that is potentially shortsighted (1 year out vs 5 year contract) if they had a significantly higher grade on Foster. Did they pass on Foster because they had his full medical report? Front office would have gotten a lot of flack from the "we only draft injured players" crowd.

Or did they never expect the opportunity to draft him, did not heavily interview him and ultimately decided to pass because all the info they had to rely on was the combine controversies? They did their homework on Jourdan Lewis, so I'm guessing they do on all of these guys. Maybe we were too locked in on DE and CB. They came across as only really considering pass rushers at 28. I want as many talented guys on defense as possible regardless of position, but maybe Foster crossed their red flag threshold between injury/off the field issues.

The debate in the next few years will be foster vs Charlton for sure. I am looking forward to see how that plays out. I agree foster was the BPA but I would of been happy with either pick. It was a win-win unless Charlton crashes and burns out of the NFL.

B-ish. Trying to get over the fact we passed on Reuben Foster. A much better player than Taco Charlton. He just is. Hopefully he'll act up in San Francisco and I can feel better about it.

Our 2nd and 3rd round picks are really good players. White was a nice 6th. I just wish they mattered.

I don't know what to say about the make a wish kid. I wouldn't have taken him there. No way.

I've said Woods was overrated. That was when he was being talked about in the 3rd round. Where they got him makes sense.

Good flyer on Noah Brown. Thank you, Zeke. He's worth a look.

The two defensive linemen late are typical try hard, under talented Marinelli types. Reminding me once again how much I wish we had a different defensive coordinator. I've had enough of effort. Give me ability.

I'd say Taco vs. Watt will be something people keep track of.

I give it a solid "B."

Drafting Taco wasnt an issue for me; I was supportive of him months before leading up to the draft. My one question mark is Chidobe Awuzie; I have doubts that he's a starting caliber outside CB which IMO we needed to land.

A+
we got the best players at the spots we drafted on the first three days of the semester, but the final grades are not posted until the semester is over in about three years

I am going to go with a B-/C+. I don't think Taco is going to be very good/consistent. I figure one of the DBs will stick and be pretty good. If we get more than that it's just gravy.

This draft class may well be graded based on the later round picks Switzer, White and Ivey. If any of them pan out then it will have been a decent draft.

I don't think this draft is anywhere as good as last year's draft. In fact it might be pressing it if any of the 3 DBs turn out to be as good as Brown which was a 6th round pick last year.

If we don't end up with a defensive starter in a defensive heavy draft then that's a huge swing and a miss. I would have taken the best player available instead of getting cute and taking a weak DE knowing there were lots of CBs in this draft.

If Taco flames out and Mixon sets the world on fire in Cincinnati it's not going to be surprising at all to me. If I had to put money on best value out of their draft class it would be Lewis or Switzer.

I think I need to go to the doctor. There must be something wrong with me. I am agreeing with you far too often for my comfort zone. Lol

I think Taco's availability is far too overblown. If he can't play for ****, what does it matter? Reliability is important only if a player can play. Hell I am available to play for the Cowboys every weekend but I have no illusions that I would help the team win any games.
