As much as I don't want Garrett around anymore, I take Mr. Blue Suit's 'reports' with a grain of salt. He's usually wrong, if not dead wrong.

I don't quite think we need another offensive minded coach. The offense has performed somewhat well this year, although it hasn't quite met expectations and once again falters down the stretch. I think the defense has done pretty well this year, too. But we don't force turnovers and that's a big issue when you're trying to win a Super Bowl. It's a QB driven league, but it's also a forcing QB turnovers league as well and we don't do that.

IMO, we need a fiery, no nonsense type of guy. I was against Singletary as HC here, but he's actually impressed me with the job he's done in SF as he doesn't have a lot of talent to work with besides Gore and Davis. My big fear with Singletary would be too simplistic of schemes and he's actually more creative with the X's and O's than I thought and adapted to the players he has than I thought he would.

If we can get something like that, and somebody who can bring in good assistants with him, I think we'll be pretty good and there may be some light at the end of this tunnel. But if we just go with a creative guy that isn't very tough on players and his schemes fit the current personnel but he can't change them for other personnel, then it will likely be the same old, same old.

Very keen, but I noticed that in 2007 after the Eagles loss. I chalked it up to growing pains with a new O-Coordinator, but now he's not new anymore.

I'll make a keen observation.

Some people sound like a broken record, some moreso than others.

I guess that applies to everyone, even myself on occassion.

I've assumed for months that Jerry would simply promote Jason Garrett when Wade Phillips is let go.

But in the chat this morning, Ed Werder made an interesting comment that Jerry has been critical of Garrett lately. This is the first I've heard of it.

I realize the M.O. around here is to attack and discredit the report or reporter (sometimes it's justified), but this is worth watching. Believe it or not, Werder has some decent sources within the organization.

If this is true, and if Shanahan and Holmgren take other jobs in the coming days, then Jerry's search for a new coach will go who knows where.

Without having read the Q&A (because Werder is not worth reading), I'd state the following:

Jerry may not like Garrett because Garrett appears to not bend to his whims.

Garrett has always given the impression of being someone who thought things through and remained level-headed, even under extreme conditions. Jerry, on the other hand, has always appeared to be the fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants type. Somehow I don't see this relationship working out long-term.

I would not be surprised if there was an internal struggle of opinions between Gareett and Jerry concerning talent. I think Garrett is running his offense the way he feels it should be run to be successful regardless of the talent level -- it's his way of proving to Jerry that they need to add more talent before they can content for a Super Bowl. I think in Jerry's mind he already has championship talent.

I'm convinced that Garrett, as HC, would continue implementing his style regardless of the opinions of anyone, including Jerry. I don't see that happening as long as Jerry is in charge.

Hey YR, I agree with you totally. I'm curious, who would your ideal head coach be for this tem? Would it be one of the "proven names" being thrown around, or some up-and-coming coordiantor on another squad?

I agree that if you look at the performance of this team that Jason Garrett's offense is more responsible for this team's failure _ if 8-5 is failure _ than Wade Phillips' defense. But more important than either of those is leadership and motivation, and it seems to me, that Wade provides either none of that or not nearly enough. He doesn't make changes in the starting lineup, doesn't bring in players during the week for tryouts until this week to keep players on edge and refuses to confront real personnel issues _ whether it's Nick Folk or Roy Williams. He pretends everything is all right and that problems are creations of the media.

Although he was a pain last year, Ed Werder is really spot on in this chat, especially the quoted text.

That game was really an expose on how the Eagles adjusted. Not only did the Eagles take away the deep pass, they adjusted to the check-down that Garrett employed for Romo to Barber all year. They key'ed on that and effectively negated that option for Romo.

I've been saying for weeks that I dont believe Garrett is anywhere near a lock for the HC job, and as most know I like Garrett and feel eventually he's gonna be a good HC in the NFL.

If Shanahan does take the Skins job w/o waiting to see what happens with Wade, that tells me Jones wasnt the least bit interested in him. Otherwise he'd have either directly or indirectly spoke with Shanahan and told him to wait. It'd been in Shanahan's best interest too, as a potential bidding war between the two richest owners could have opened up.

I didnt see the Eagles taking away any deep pass in that game. I saw Romo badly miss a wide open Owens for what would have been an 80+ yd TD early in the game though.

I mean, this is a guy who in the past has said that Patrick Crayton was better than Roy Williams

Well, there could be an argument made on this point, in this season....and last. I'll concede that talent wise, RW is better. Production would say otherwise, though.

I hope Jerry doesn't think that just because he took Wade over Norv and it didn't pan out, that now he's gotta go offensive 'genius' no matter what. I just want him to pick a good, strong, no-nonsense guy like YR said. I don't really care if he's an offense or defense guy. Just pick someone the players respect and someone who never holds their head down at half walking to the locker room.

I don't know much about him, but Russ Grimm springs to mind?

Just because a player has gone through some injuries, doesn't mean he can't handle more carries.

That is narrow minded.

Besides, getting hurt while "doing rehab" with the Dallas trainers shouldn't count.

Feed Felix the rock.

If he can't handle close to 20 carries or 20 carries, why is he here?

Felix Jones can do it.

C.O. Brocatto said that he could carry the load.

The guy is a legendary NFL scout.

Making an evaluation like that based on two years is foolish.

The weather changes, you know.

Is Jason Garrett the worst play caller in the league?
Why yes, yes he is..

Good morning from New Orleans, sit of tomorrow night's big game. I'm hearing Jerry Jones is very critical of Jason Garrett, whom he once thought would be the Cowboys' head coach. I understand his logic in the goal-line situation. Yove have to think Marion Barber will get you a yard there. He's not the same player. But if you know you're going for it in that situation on fourth down and you have a mobile quarterback, I think you play-action on third down, roll Romo and sneak Jason Witten out on a route. The Cowboys' offense has been simplified to eliminate presnap penalties and because some players have difficulty processing a lot of information. They need to be aggressive against the Saints.
