Twitter: Werder: Cowboys are carefully representing hiring of Pettine as here to support Parker

So we have another learn on the job coach?
No. Pettine has lots of experience to help the defense. Schotty has work to do, as always, on offense. It's likely to be about the same, all told. Let's hope for the best and not be negative about change. Lord knows change was sorely needed. I don't expect it to be an easy process. Injured players returning will help our cause. Pettine will either help CP or he won't. CP needs help. It's obvious. CP will be up in the booth and Pettine will work on the field during games.

Never said I did care what CP thinks. I just said this is really bad news for him, regardless of his relationship with Pettine.

The only real issue without having established roles between the two is you may end up with a split locker room or even coaching staff if some are behing CP and some are behind Pettine.
could be. feels like the best thing that could happen. he's a young guy, and respects pettine. it's the optics and talking heads that can skew it negative.

“The #Cowboys are carefully representing the hiring of Pettine as someone who is here to support Christian Parker and offer advice based on his experience. But NFL coaches I’ve spoken to who know Pettine and the dynamics of the situation with the Cowboys believe the more influence and responsibility Pettine has, the better for the team.

One HC who had Pettine on his staff: “They finally hired a real coach. Pettine is legit. Dallas will walk away with that division now.”
Rock, I came back little early, ..lol. The Pettine hiring, that little cast of hope. ;).

Overall I’d agree with that. In general it’s a move that needed to be made. The optics of things would have been significantly better had it happened before the season started though.

You and I both know that if the defense improves it’ll be measured as what’s happened since Pettine came on board. Fans will absolutely be split based on the narrative they want to drive. The bigger issue is a split that happens in the locker room or the front office. As much as we want to think these are professionals they’re still human and humans have a tendency to pick sides. I could absolutely see a push for people wanting pettine to be the DC of the D turns around and pettine is a clear factor in that.

absolutely. and i can see the potential fallout, but can also see it working out. i have no clue why i'm more of an optimist as of late when everything is burning lol, but they don't call us fanatics for being rational

That's kidna what I assumed when it happened... This is a temporary demotion for CP without really calling it that.

This is a positive move as something had to be done dont get me wrong, but the real question & issue now if the defense starts to rebound is should Pettine just be the DC?

I'm not sure I really see a positive outcome with this from CPs perspective.
Now it's better for CP's future if the defense *doesn't* turn around!

Yeah it's gonna be real interesting for Parker if we see immediate results.
Not really. Pettine is not here to further his career. He’s here to help his good friend CP. Don’t try to make something out of nothing.

It's a known fact that Parker and Pettine have worked together successfully in the past and that Parker approves of Pettine joining him in an effort to get good results for the team's defense. There is a chance that such a deal might work with those two working in tandem. It's worth the effort. CP needed help and now, it's granted, He requested it a while back. I see nothing wrong for this to happen, if it's needed.

Seems to me like Pettine's pretty much the new DC. Being that it's midseason, keeping Parker around is to help smooth the transition.
Must be the new thing now in the NFL. Hire your replacement while you are still with the team. Once the new hire learns the system and gets comfortable, you are history. I honestly believe Parkers days are numbered.

The Big Mike Pettine era has officially started in Big D.

Let the course be righted.
I know this is a negative comment about our defense, but I wonder if changing DC's is the answer. Do the Cowboys have the talent on D for a coaching change to make a difference?

No talent and bad coaching is not a good combination.

For pettine it’s a win win, especially if he wants to coach again. If the team continues to struggle, Parker still gets the blame. Pettine gets paid for a few months and can take another job somewhere else or go back to retirement. Reputation unscathed.

However, if the defense makes any improvement he’ll get a lot of the credit which he can parlay into another gig should he desire one.
MP likely stays.

Either as DC or HC.
