Its not even about a deep threat to me.

Teams are playing deep zones against us. We need to do more shorter routes and start taking what they are giving us and just getting the ball in our receivers hands.

We need to use the run and short passing game to either drive up the field or make them play up and then burn them deep.

Most of what we're completing are shorter passes....even most of the big plays are short to intermediate routes...I think the stat noted during the KC game is we've only had 1 or 2 completions all yr on passes over 20 yds in the air.

At some point Roy is gonna have some big games, then hopefully this kind of non sense (as well as that blooming idiot JJT's stuff today) will go away.

The rants will go away until Roy Williams or Miles Austin has a quiet stretch where they don't see too many passes.

Then the media will slap the panic button again and do what they can to turn the fan base into an angry mob.

They don't need a button.

it makes perfect sense for 103.3

They just had watkins on with mosley, galloway and ian crapfest.

It was basically just 10 minutes of how bad the cowboys are and how dare anyone say they can improve.
Yeah, I caught that on the radio.

For everyone in town, the game seems to be to make fun of the team in the cutest, most inventive way possible. It's so stupid.

It's funny you mention that segment, though, because as I was listening to that spot I was imagining someone on here saying "Just don't listen to it!" But darn it, I've loved sports radio for years, and it's a shame that it all seems to be going in the dumper right now.

I also thought that even though I complain about Norm sometimes, a few years from now I'll be longing for someone like him who at least *tries* some genuine analysis without everything becoming a lame comedy skit.

Werder was just on reiterating what he said on Irvin's show last week that Miles' best position is the same position Roy plays. (Never mind that Irvin totally disagreed and thought that Miles with his deep speed and Roy with his good hands and big body were perfect complements to each other... Werder insists a source -- maybe Garrett himself -- told him this.)

So he then uses that to go on a rant about Bill Belichick benching Adalius Thomas despite his big contract and Bill Parcells having "churn" tryouts on Friday so the players can see that someone could be coming after their jobs.

What he was getting at, via a huge reach IMO, is that Roy should be benched so Miles could play his best position. Which means that Miles and Crayton would be your starters.

Does that make sense to anyone? Does anyone really think that Crayton is a better WR than Roy? I know Roy hasn't produced a lot yet, but would you bench him so Crayton could start?

Just wondering.

Austin has more yards in one game than RW has all season at the same position. I'm not saying but i'm saying,

Patrick Crayton just needs to focus on the fact that if defenses sleep on him in the slot while focusing on Miles Austin, Jason Witten and Roy Williams, he will eat them alive.

Being a slot receiver isn't just about catching dinks and dunks, Jason Garrett will call deep posts and crosses as well.

The whole thing about one receiver being a better wide receiver and the other being a better flanker is way overrated, IMO.

Just get your best two receivers on the field at the same time, for God's sake.

It's not really that complicated.

Yeah, but Mr. Blue Suit has a source and his sources are always credible. Just like Keith Davis being dead, Parcells retiring after '03, then '04, then '05, Owens getting in a locker room brawl with Witten and whatever nonsense this guy reports.

Does anybody in their right mind think Crayton is better than Roy Williams? Is there any debate from any sane, non-vendetta driven person that the main question is whether Miles should start over Crayton? Even I think Miles should start over Crayton.

Sooooo....lemme guess. Roy has stated earlier in the year he wasn't going to talk to the media. He broke that promise, but that probably means he's not talking to some guys and that's probably Mr. Blue Suit.

What puppet and ho.

Crayton will excel in the slot. Austin wil have to grow into his #2 role, and Williams will have to play hard to justify Romo throwing his way. I was really impressed with Austin's strength last week. He made some great catches besides the two that went for long TDs.

I heard Werder today and me thinks he "thinks more highly of himself than he aught".

The leaping third down catch in the middle was crucial for getting back in the game, Tashard Choice scored later on that drive.

Nothing will endear a wide receiver to his quarterback quicker than going up and making plays on the ball to secure big catches.

Tony Romo hasn't had that in a starter before this season, now he has two, even if Roy Williams is still a work in progress in the trust department.

Romo now knows if he gives Austin a chance at a pass, the wideout isn't going to leave him hanging out to dry, he will try to go and get it.

Maybe my ears aren't working but all I heard him say was his "sources" told him that Austin's best position is the one Roy plays but in order for Austin to play that position Roy would have to move to an unnatural position for him or be benched.

Now I don't know anywhere enough about x's and o's to say which position Roy or Miles is best suited for, but I strongly believe you play and start the best players regardless of where they got drafted or what they get paid.

I agree with the notion of having a healthy fear for your job and believe competition breeds excellance.

I think Werder may be unfortunately correct in that Dallas Management and Coaches (aka Jerry) make decisions so as to not offend players or based on where they were drafted which I think is part of the problem on this team.

I say churn the roster, sit players who don't perform as well as others and don't allow anyone to ever feel their job is completely safe. The team is greater than the players and until Jerry realizes this or gets incredibly lucky, I think we will continue to feel our team is not getting the most out of its "talent".

Werder is just doing what ESPN puppets do all the time about the Cowboys.
Austin has a huge game so instead of talking about how good it is that the Cowboys have somebody at the Wr position step up...he instead wants to insist that Austin should replace Roy Williams.
Claiming a source....again.
Don't watch ESPN, don't listen to ESPN sports talk on the radio. Or listen to Irvin's show and then when Werder comes on change the station. These reporters, the ESPN network and the sports radio shows all have an agenda to stir up controversy. It's ridiculous.

I don't have the slightest idea what nomenclature this offense uses nor whether or not it uses option trees on every route by every receiver. That makes a huge difference on knowing your routes and reads both by the receivers and the QB. Does anyone here know?

And do we use traditional X, Y and Z receivers who run particular routes for one play or like above? Does Roy sometimes run the X then the Z route? Do they fiip flop?

My guess is Roy will be more of a possession receiver and Austin will get more deep and intermediate routes but I'm doing this by the SWAG method.

Unless Werder knows all the above and how Garrett is paring down the routes and/or trees for each receiver then he's talking out his ***.
I don't know anything about that, but I would assume that Garrett uses the more difficult and less effective one just because. This team should run 4 routes. Slants, drags, ins, and jets.
