We're in trouble if we don't fix this Pass Rush

We're in trouble then, because Lawrence alone is not fixing the pass rush.

he will have big effect because I really liked what I saw in Collins & McClain at DT. Then you add tank and you have 3 very good starters. It then comes down to filling the other DE and there could be like 6 guys competing for that spot. Don't judge this pass rush yet.

This game we barely blitzed at all, we were only bringing 3 and 4 man pressure almost the entire game, allowing us to play coverage. The only way the Bears were gonna stay in this game is if they got some cheap, big plays...they didn't and we won. San Fran's offense is kind of the same type of offense as the Bears so you can expect to see more of the same.

The only help for the pass rush comes in the form of Demarcus Lawrence coming back.

We knew this going in. It's what some of us were talking about when we spent the #4 overall on a RB we didn't need and the #34 on a MIKE who won't see the field this year, if ever.
Who are you nancy and what have you done with Idgit? :)

Which is why even with his risks, Spence should have been the pick. They took a huge gamble on a Mike instead. Gregory screwed us in more ways than one apparently.

Anyone know why Irving is not getting more opportunities? Seems when he's in there he causes havoc in the backfield. With the pedestrian DL play why not play him more?

Hey, I've been *****ing about the defense for *years* now. I just don't blame the stuff that's not actually getting us beat. :)

Sorry I thought you said top 10 player.. Missed the team lol.

Haha I was gonna get mad at you while I'm jacked about the win, but no he's prob not even in the the top 15 DEs. Eh, maybe he sneaks in around 15 if he has a nice 12 games. He's got some upside, but our pass rush will still be garbage with him, just better garbage.

Three of our four best pass-rushers have not played a snap all season, and we almost never blitz.
Dude, Nick Hayden isn't on the team anymore.

Problem is there wasn't a DE worth taking at #4 and there wasn't a DE worth taking at #34 (the two we were targeting when just before our pick).

What else is frustrating is getting any kind of news on Tapper.

Yes, it's a back injury but the whole organization is so tight lipped about him. Usually, Jerry would be telling the world he's coming along great and will be ready to go soon but I'm beginning to think it's something degenerative and much more serious than they are letting on.

I don't understand how they can be so bad for literally the entire game. Even when we forced them in passing situations (entire 2nd half), we still could not sniff the QB. I really thought they'd have a decent game vs the Bears but they actually looked worse than Week 1/2.

If I'm McClay, I have a dozen guys come workout this week b/c we're in for a rude awakening vs our next four opponents if we don't fix this. I'd gladly take the 2015 pass rush right now at this point.

This is partly why they're in this very situation. Reliance on McClay to spot something the other 31 teams couldn't and a near cult-like confidence in Marinelli to spin straw into gold. The false belief that they can get something out of nothing is what has allowed the team to continuously take these various risks that are yielding nothing.

Noah Spence?
He has 1 tackle (a sack) in three games.

Plus he is a 250lb DE who may be better suited for a OLB in the 3-4 role.
I don't think we want another player with a drug background playing DE. We already have enough.

But I agree about Gregory. Just not sure Spence will prove out to be better than Smith at the end of the story.
