We're Not Going to the Playoffs

Our season is over, even if we do run the table, which I think we have a realistic shot at doing.

What there's no realistic shot at is for the four teams ahead of us to go on four to five game losing skids and take themselves out of the playoffs.

The Rams are 4-6 right now. They would be the easiest to falter. Even if they finish 9-7, if they sustain one loss to an NFC team, we'll have the tiebreaker on them because we'll have 7-5 conference record versus their 6-6 record.

The Commanders are 5-5 now. If they sustain a loss to us, their conference record drops to 4-4. According to the tiebreaking procedures, that's what you use to break a tie within a division when both teams have won head-to-head. All they need to do is lose to the Giants after we beat them to have a 3-3 division record, which we would supplant at 4-2 if we ran the table.

The Giants are in front of us at 6-3 now. They have to lose tonight and then three more games to finish 9-7. For us to supplant them, they'll need to lose to Philthy tonight and later against the Eagles again or to the Commanders to have three losses in the division which we would break the tie with our four wins.

The Buccaneers are at #7 right now and would need to lose four of their next six. All of their four losses would need to come against NFC teams to have a 6-6 conference record which we would supplant with our 7-5 conference record. New Orleans and Atlanta could help us with half of that, but we'd be relying on Seattle, Detroit, Washington, and San Franpsycho to carry us the rest of the way with that.

Right now, at #6, the final wild card spot, are the Green Bay Packers who have the tiebreaker over us. To lose their playoff spot, all of the above must happen. THEN they must four of their next six, and all of their losses must have against NFC teams. They could lose to Atlanta, New York, and Chicago. They won't lose to Detroit and San Franpsycho.

To take the division, which would ensure us a playoff spot, the Giants would have to lose in the manner I detailed. Then, the Eagles would have to lose to Chicago, Houston, New York, or Minnesota. They must lose to two of these teams, preferably New York and Chicago, in addition to getting swept by us. If that happens, they'll be 9-7 with a 3-3 division record which we would supplant with our 4-2 division record and the two-game lead to take the division.

Face it, my fellow Cowboys fans -- we're not going to the playoffs this year. Let's enjoy every Sunday while we can because it's going to be one interminable off-season.

I have had no illusions that this is a playoff team for some time now.

But, the last two weeks have restored my pride in the team. The Green Bay game, in particular, showed me a gutless, heartless bunch of quitters who put out no effort. The Jerry-Wade circus made the future seem truly depressing.

Now Garret has restored hope that we have a coach who can build this team into a champion in the years ahead.

I will not give up hope till we are completely elimintated!! I know its unlikely but I can dream, cant I?

It's too soon for me to even begin looking at remaining schedules, who has to do what etc. Having said that, if we COULD get in it would be short-lived anyway. We simply do not have the O-line IMO to seriously compete in the playoffs.

I'm thrilled that we are at least playing with some pride now. I'm eager to see what we can do against top flight competition (NO, Indy, Philly) when we are NOT in a position to sneak up on them.

There is of course that little ray of hope that will continue to shine until we're officially eliminated. But realisitically I am thinking about next year while watching for the Garrett impact to this year.

I agree, I don't Playoffs are likely at all. Very remotest of remote chances. Second, winning out all, is also a pipe dream. If this boys go 4-2 rest of the way, that in itself is a very big achievement.

Not as hopeless as you think.

GB doesn't factor in since they're winning the North.

I'm liking the possibility of catching the Ginats or Eagles or both a little more.

Not seeieng the #6 seed going to a 9-7 team as all that unlikely. I think the odds are actually a good bit longer that we go 9-7.

What's killing me is now it looks less likely Romo will play in Indy.

There's no bigger Cowboy fan than I am. However, I can't believe some of you still think there's a chance for this team to make the playoffs. We're FREAKING 3-7. The 2010 Dallas Cowboys are not making the playoffs. We dug ourselves WAY too deep of a hole to even remotely get out of it. Hopefully next season we won't start the season with such a thud.

The Giants could very well play themselves out of the playoffs.

You're on drugs.

Likely only way would be to win the division, sweeping Phili and beating Washington and winning all our games - while Phili Washington and Giants must all also tank.

Regardless, I'm not watching because of playoff hopes. I'm evaluating players and enjoying it.

I really enjoyed today:

Scandrick
McCann
Sean Lee
Free
Dez of course
Hatcher stepped up
Spencer looks a lot better last 2 weeks
Julius Jones (still looks dangerous fairly regularly whenver he can get a bit of space and a step going).

etc.

Watching for the future and which guys are key building blocks for the nucleus of a winning team in the future.

Don't think playoffs. Think improvement in play and even improvement in scheme and coaching. This is important for the future.

When did we re-sign him?

:laugh2:

We have a much higher chance of making the playoffs at 9-7 than we do of running the table. Even if we were 3-2 favorites in every single game, our odds of running the table are less than 5%. Far more than 5% of 9-7 teams make it to the playoffs.
