We're not where we need to be

Easy. Some players will leave in free agency, some will get extended and some will be restructured. The Cowboys have the 2nd youngest team in the NFL so a lot of players on their 1st contracts. The salary cap goes up every year as well.
Okay, so it's not easy. These are all potentional corner stone players. You say you want Henry. Who are you keeping and getting rid of to do that? Dak, Cee Dee and Parsons would eat up 50% of the cap alone, if it's easy what do you do?

The title of this thread should be next season's mantra. Put it on a t-shirt.
Pork chops, pork chops,

Greasy, greasy...

We can be you 'uns...

Easy! Easy!

C'mon, these are professionals also. :starspin:

MM was asked about the lack of a running game and the inability to stop the run. ”We’re not where we need to be.” I wish he would’ve said we suck at both and will prioritize fixing that.
He’s going to prioritize those just like the penalty issues the last 4 years.

I don’t think they’ll go RB in the first round. At least I hope not. They need to fix the OL, DL, LB first. It’s going to be interesting to see how they address the deficiencies.
If I had my druthers it has to be LB in 1. We aren’t physical enough with DBs/Ss playing LB. One of my best friends was a D coordinator and LB coach at some major college programs. His assessment Sunday was this….

“Defense is not physical enough. If you can’t get stops you can’t win. We haven’t been big enough up front in years and our second and 3rd level guys are all DB’s so we aren’t physical. 8 man boxes don’t matter if your 8th guy can’t tackle. Aaron Jones is running through arm tackles. Micah is not a great run defender. He’s still learning how to play DE. Remember he’s an off the ball linebacker until really until this season.”

So RB I would eye maybe 3rd or in FA

I could have given this assessment seven years ago. Nothing has changed.

What's his cost?

I am not tying up tens of millions and multiple years in a TB. That's dumb.

EDIT: Spotrac likes to project contracts, they have Henry at 2 years, around $8MM total. I think I could live with that.
Not sure how I feel about our primary TB being 31 going into the season

No they won’t. Parsons has another year left , Lamb will be extended which will reduce his cap hit down from 18 mil. Martin will be restructured and possibly D-Law.

You're still in position over the next two years where you are talking about Dak, Parsons, Lamb and Tyler Smith, not to mention a new LT or resigning Tyron. Okay you restructure those two, that pushes money down the line, so if they structure a Dak contract like they did the last one you are in the years he's counting mega against the cap and now you're dealing with paying the piper for the players you restructured and you now can't afford anything. These decisions will make or break the team. You can't resign them all and defintely can't and resign Henry. I don't know what you do either, but it's defintely not easy.

All depends on the cost.

I sure as **** wouldn't want to have to pay a crap ton of money and years to a RB who is younger. That's just dumb business.

Yeah but that's what they said last year fans were like no no way it would be really nice if we got Jamir Gibbs or similar, I mean even if it's not in the first round you're going to have to get one in the second round, gibbs instead of mazi might have been nice..i believe he went 1 spot before we picked?

u think lol

but seriously I realize we need a stud linebacker as well might need that in the first but maybe the second or the third round we need to pick the best available running back that's similar to zeke we don't need another fast Tony Pollard type we can use deuce bond for that if we get a stud #1 we can work deuce Vaughn and anybody you know maybe a mid level veteran somewhere bring him on this team cheap to be the change of pace type..

Successful NFL teams need to be built from the inside out. It all starts in the trenches.

My fear is Jerry pours a ton of assets or a high pick into a TB like he did with Elliott, which resulted in not much for this franchise.

Fix the run game by replacing the OL coach, changing up your scheme, maybe look to upgrade center and get a good rotation of backs in here that likely won't cost you much (a good FA back coupled with a mid round pick, Dowdle is fine as a 3rd TB).
Actually, I think that drafting a blue chip RB is exactly the kind of choice that makes sense right now. It's not a great long term investment, but it would provide an instant impact.

If you want to keep Big Mike and Dak around for one last ride, fine. Just go all in and finally say forget about the future, we're winning this thing now. That also includes upgrading on the offensive line where you can.
