Okay, I get why some fans want to cut both Cooper and Lawrence and also why some fans do not. As a fan of some 60 years, I just want to win the Super Bowl again and again.
Why is no one figuring out what happens if we restructure both of them and what it means to the cap in 2022 and 2023 and 2024. If both are restructured then we gain $24.5 million in cap space. It also pushes that money into the next two years. There is a BUT here also, in 2023 you could cut both after June 1st and still end up adding some $12 million to cap space even with the dead money and KNOW that NFL and NFLPA Look Forward to the Future Salary Cap ; 2023, $231,200,000/$248,000,000; 2024, $249,200,000/$268,200,000 ; 2025, $272,200,000/$288,000,000.
Seems to me for the best results we could restructure, giving us this draft and next draft to find suitable replacements while resigning some guys we need to have without blowing up the roster. Frankly I hate the years where we were drafting anywhere in the top 15, that always meant we sucked during the year.
I get fans are upset how the season ended but if you go back and look at the projections, no one had us over 9 wins and only a few had us finishing 2nd in the division while most had us finishing 3rd. Sure I believe we should have done better but 30 other teams feel that way also. Is our FO flawed? That is a no brainer when the owner is also the GM instead of proven football guys but have to admit he is a helluva of business man or the Cowboys wouldn't be at the top of the food chain in making money.
I am sure most if not all will be disappoint in what we do in free agency, seems we always are. Hoping the draft plays out well for us but I still don't think we need to blow things up for the cap.
