Just saw on the eagles forum that they think their receivers were "running free" all day in our secondary and mcnabb just couldnt hit them. I was wondering if any of you who actually went to the game could confirm/deny this. I know of a couple times they were open but he missed them but were they really always open? Hard to tell from the way the game is televised.

There were some times they were open. Same can be said about virtually any game. I don't remember seeing every WR open a lot. There were a few blown coverages, mostly on Celek it seemed. But out of all the snaps in a game there will be blown coverages.

there were times when guys were open. They missed some plays, so did we. That is part of the game.

What you have to understand is that is the design of the defense. getting pressure, taking away the big play and forcing the ball down.

that is why a guy like celek will have good numbers.

If you go back and watch oakland and seattle games, you will see similar things....guys running over the middle of the field open....

but the game is can you get the ball there efficiently and wade has been winning that angle all year.

My fear for sat is that they will take all the short stuff and attack us short and be patient. Reid and mcnabb are extremely arrogant to me, they will continue to throw and throw deep no matter where they are in the game or on the field.

Most of routs they were so called running free on were short routs. As long as we come up and smack them down Philly offense will continue to struggle

we have to better on celek, its obvious mcnabb is going to look for him on 3rd downs,he was wide open most of the game.

Unfortunately with the way their offense runs I think you have to let him be and only worry about him with a LB or a saftey because he is still a 20 yard and under player mostly and the Iggles aren't a sustained drive team. If their WRs aren't making 20+ yard plays they don't move the ball with regularity.

There were a couple plays where guys were open. The one where maclin couldn't make the catch comes to mind. Aikman said it would've been a td, but it wouldn't have been. But it would have been a first and a big gain. The other was the deep throw to jackson. He had newman beat by a couple yards but mcnabb couldn't hit him. Maybe the pressure got to him.

There were a couple other ones where he had guys but the weren't wide open. We had guys in position to make the hit right after the catch was made.

They can be wide open all they want. As long as they don't get in the endzone. Who cares.

Guess for the egals that is something to build on, considering they have nothing else to build on from that game.

Like theebs said, this happens in every single game. If any QB had all day to survey the field and knew he'd never get hit, he'd throw for a thousand yards and 10 TDs.

But in the real world, QBs have 93, 94, and 90 to worry about.

Believe it or not, I'm actually worried about Vick and a bunch of wildcat plays next week. Unlike most wildcat runners, he can actually throw it a little.

A lot of the failures the receivers enjoyed were because McNabb couldn't hit them. A couple of times he threw the ball into the dirt. Maclin had a pass whistle through his hands, behind his ear that would have been big. The pass was catchable, be he was also looking for Hamlin, who was beating up on him all day.

The stats for Jackson and Maclin were almost identical. They each caught three passes for 47 yards, with Jackson's longest going for 32, and Maclin's going for 31 yards. That left two passes each for 15 yards. Not great numbers unless there is a TD added, and there weren't. Westbrook caught 4 passes, one for 11 yards, and the other three for 9 yards. Not very frightening.

Most of the time they were open on crossing routes, but almost any receiver will be open on a crossing route. The problem is if the pass rush makes the QB move a step or two, he misses his opportunity to hit the crossing route when it's open...it's a short window.

The Eagles aren't going to be shut out often. I figure they probably should have scored 10-17 points last night if all had worked out for them on the near misses and turnovers...that's still not enough to win.

They don't have much of a running game, but getting a quick lead is critical because then they can't even afford to play around with it and keep us honest.

To echo theebs and CL, if you watch a game in person, you'll see guys running open all day for each team. The question is always, (1) is he one of the top reads on that play such that the QB is likely to go to him, (2) similarly, does the QB even recognize he is open, and (3) does the QB have enough time to recognize and get the ball out.

Absolutely, they were running free. They were running free from making an impact! :D

Same BS propaganda Jaws was throwing out there as a pralude to this game. He showed a couple of plays of eagle WRs open (didn't look all that open to me) and used that as an excuse or perhaps reason why this game would be different. That 16 point game was a fluke and the Cowboys' "suspect secondary" surely wouldn't hold down the eagles explosive offense again.;)

Well we saw how that worked out.

As much as I love the analysts using game film to enlighten us, you have to realize how easy it is to take a few plays out of perhaps 60 to drive home an agenda.

without westbrook they can't sustain drives. mccoy doesn't scare anyone. and you don't have to worry about the short pass to him.

Our coverage can be suspect at times, but our front 4 or 5 compensate for it.

Hahaha Jaws is a former Eagle, and of course he has that hatred for any Cowboys related. Turn off the TV people, and let BSPN ramble about how much we suck.

Unless that team's defense is terrible, no, he can't.
