RV: Let's move to offense. For casual and not so casual Cowboys fans, these are probably positions 1 through 10 in priority. I'm talking about the offensive line. Let's start by taking the crop as a whole, offensive line, tackles, guards, centers. How would you rate the 2011 group compared to the 2010 crop or the one which came out the year before?

Wes Bunting: As last year and the year before there's no real elite guy in my opinion. Last year we had Russell Okung. The year before that we had Andre Smith and Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe. This year, I don't think Gabe Carimi from Wisconsin is a top ten pick. I don't think Solders from Colorado is a top ten pick. My favorite is Demarcus Love from Arkansas, but he might be better as a guard. I think you can find good, talented players here but I don't think the talent is as consistent here as in years past.

G's - Ben Ijalana from Villanova. (6'4", 320 lbs.)
Marcus Cannon from T.C.U. plays left tackle there. (6'5", 358 lbs.)
Justin Boren from Ohio State (6'3" 320 lbs.) this guy is nasty, spits nails

There was a practice this spring when I looked up after a play at practice and wondered why Justin Boren was smothering a defensive tackle 5 yards downfield from the play. He has moments like that.
Jim Tressel talked from the jump about how Boren at Michigan was one of the best run blockers in the Big Ten. And forced into playing left tackle in the spring game, Boren held his own out on the edge while pass blocking.
But I'm interested in how physically he differs compared to the rest of the line.

Andy Miller is 6-6, 279.
Mike Adams is 6-8, 322.
Jim Cordle is 6-4, 295.
Bryant Browning is 6-4, 312.
J.B. Shugarts is 6-8, 298.

Boren is 6-3, 315.

Browning is listed with similar measurements, but Boren looks about twice as thick front to back as anyone else on the line, the kind of guy who's not going to be knocked backward very easily. You're not going to get under him, or knock him off balance. Compared to last season's left guard, giant Steve Rehring, who was 6-foot-8, Boren looks like a different species.

The nasty talk, while a part of what Boren brings, has taken on a life of its own, maybe eclipsing what Boren offers that's more important. He looks like a cinder block on the inside of the line. He's not perfect. But he's a pro. Forget the attitude - he can play
