Part II of our weekly chat with the National Football Post's Wes Bunting looks at defensive end and nose tackle prospects, the value of Combine workouts and the perennial problem at free safety.

Cowboys Nation: I have a question about Jerrell Powe, the D-lineman from Ole Miss. There's a big nose tackle chorus here. I watched him in San Antonio and saw some dominance in one-on-one drills, but he faded into the background when the scrimmaging

with news of lions rt gosder cherilus having microfracture surgery . what possible tackle to replace him would be available later in the draft
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:31 ed
1:32 WesBunting: I think as far as right tackles are concerned the Lions could look at TCU's MArcus Cannon, Alabama's James Carpenter or later Virginia Union David Mims...

when you think of Jake Locker do you think he has the ability to be an elite qb? Is it just a consistency issue? If it is just consistency can it be fixed?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:32 adammwilson
1:32 WesBunting: I do NOT think Washington QB Jake Locker has what it takes from the shoulders up to be an elite QB in the NFL. He needs to be brought along slowly, more of a boom or bust kind of prospect.

1:33 [Comment From Michael RAMichael RA: ]
Which players are likely to be the biggest combine risers this year?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:33 Michael RA
1:34 WesBunting: I think a lot of JRS can get a lot of buzz after the Combine. LSU CB Patrick Peterson, Alabama RB Mark Ingram, but the guy who I hear will blow it up is TCU OL Marcus Cannon. He's 6-5, 350-pounds and is said to run in the 5.2 range, that's speed for a big guy!

Realistically speaking, what players would the Browns be able to draft in order to come away with two impact players at WR and DL?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:34 Guest
1:35 WesBunting: I think they can look at WR A.J. Green from Georgia in round one, and pray that a guy like Baylor DL Phil Taylor is there in round 2
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:35 WesBunting
1:35 [Comment From EvanEvan: ]
Is this just a weak year for RBs, or is this a sign of the decline of the feature back? Will we see teams spend top draft picks on RBs anymore?

[Comment From PTPT: ]
If you had to start an offensive line of all rookies from this class what would it look like?
LT Tyson Smith
RT Gabe Carimi
C Stefen Wisniewski
LG Ben Ijalana
RG Danny Watkins

Wes, you hear the Miller, Quinn and Aldon Smith names all the time. How far behind is Justin Houston as a 3-4 OLB prospect?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:37 Os from NJ
1:37 WesBunting: Tyron Smith *
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:37 WesBunting
1:38 WesBunting: I really like Justin Houston...think he can be as good as any pass rusher to come out of this draft as a 34 guy.

[Comment From shankshank: ]
do you think the Commanders will take a qb with their first pick if so who
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:38 shank
1:38 WesBunting: No, I think the Skins go O-line or WR first round, QB in rounds 2/3
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:38 WesBunting
1:38 [Comment From DrewDrew: ]
Aside from Mark Ingram and Mikel Leshore, who are the next best running backs?

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:38 Drew
1:39 WesBunting: I really like Cal RB Shane Vereen and Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter, like VT Ryan Williams as well but there are some medical concerns with him that should cause him to fall.

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:39 WesBunting
1:39 [Comment From scottscott: ]
do you think ted thompson will draft mikel leshoure

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Enter-the-Wednesday-NFL-Draft-Chat-Here.html

No I think the Packers look at OL or DL late in round one...guy like JJ Watt or Danny Watkins
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:40 WesBunting
1:40 [Comment From Dan from NYDan from NY: ]
Do you think the smaller RBS are being overlooked as NFL prospects? I am thinking specifically of Jacquizz Rodgers, Dion Lewis and Kendall Hunter

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:40 Dan from NY
1:40 Which player will get drafted higher?
Nick Fairley-Auburn
( 82% )Patrick Peterson-LSU
( 18% )
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:40
1:41 WesBunting: I think to a degree, I like Rogers and Hunter a lot...not as high on Lewis, but think there is a spot for him in the league in the later rounds

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:41 WesBunting
1:41 [Comment From Brett WymerBrett Wymer: ]
Wes, do you think Prince is a better pure cover corner than patrick peterson? I've watched alot of games and to me, prince has the better game for a corner, and is similar in size to PP
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:41 Brett Wymer
1:42 WesBunting: Remember, when breaking these guys down we aren't trying to figure out who is the better college corner, but who will be the BETTER NFL corner. Peterson is a better athlete, more physical and turns and runs a lot better.

1:42 [Comment From Tre9erTre9er: ]
If you're San Fran and Peterson, Quinn, and Miller are all gone at 7, do you just take whichever DT is left or reach on Jimmy Smith/Brandon Harris?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:42 Tre9er
1:43 WesBunting: I think the 49ers will have their pick of either Quinn or Von Miller, I don't think you need to reach for a CB there if Peterson is off the board though.

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:43 WesBunting
1:43 [Comment From TaylorTaylor: ]
Do you see Ponder being available in the top of the second round or will a team in the mid to late first consider him?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:43 Taylor
1:43 WesBunting: I think he could get a look late in round one, as teams that need a QB could trade back in (Skins, Bills,Vikings) ...But as of now I would say he's more of a solid second round pick.

do you think gb can get a luxry pick a percey harvin d jax type of player that kr\pr/wr
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:44 jb
1:45 WesBunting: I think a guy in that mold would be Boise State WR Titus Young...first round seems a lil too high, but if they want to make it work they will need to grab him as 32 IMO

Wes, If Julio Jones is available at the Lions no.13 pick, how hard do you think teams will try to move up over St. Louis?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:45 Schottey
1:46 WesBunting: VERY HARD...Jones seems like a perfect fit for the Rams...he's a great three step receiver and Bradford loves to work in the three step game.

How does being dismissed from South Carolina affect TE Weslye Saunders when it comes to the NFL?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:46 Evan
1:47 WesBunting: Well he's going to be a supplemental draft guy, hasn't played in over a year and I am going to have a tough time seeing an NFL team give up anything more than a late round pick at this stage no to get him.

Can arm strength be learned, considering the success of Rodgers and Brady? Is arm strength the only thing that's holding Greg McElroy back from being an elite NFL QB?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:47 Drew
1:47 Which wide receiver would you rather have on your team?
Julio Jones-Alabama
( 15% )A.J. Green-Georgia
( 85% )
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:47
1:49 WesBunting: Arm strength can be developed. As guys mature their arm naturally gets stronger, plus they do a lot of wrist strengthening exercises in the NFL to build it up further. But yes, arm strength is the big thing holding McElroy back as a prospect. But he has enough to make a roster.

What QB do you think will be around at the 13th pick of the 2nd round for the 49ers to look at?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:49 Os C
1:49 WesBunting: I think Ponder could be there, Dalton, Kaepernick and Stanzi will all be there.

Greg McElroy... NFL starter material eventually?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:49 Ben

Who do you think the Buffalo Bills could take with the 3rd overall pick in the upcoming draft?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:50 CJ Pareti
1:50 WesBunting: I think a pass rusher like Von Miller or Robert Quinn could be in play, as well as a QB like Cam Newton

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:50 WesBunting

do you think Gabbert could step in and play immediately? How much of a learning curve will there be given the offense he ran in college?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:50 billy
1:51 WesBunting: I think Gabbert needs time, he's a big kid, good athleticism for size and can make all the throws. BUT...lacks great feel in pocket, struggles in underneath pass game, bit awkward with footwork at times.

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:51 WesBunting
1:51 [Comment From Dan from NYDan from NY: ]
Since the upside is there and he has a big arm and athleticism, how early do you think a team reaches for Colin Kaepernick?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:51 Dan from NY
1:52 WesBunting: I could see a team taking a shot on Kaepernick in the 2/3 round...I don't think he's much more than a late round pick tho, but that's just my opinion

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:52 WesBunting
1:52 [Comment From BreckBreck: ]
Do you see Green Bay taking a back like Mikel Lishoure or Mark Ingram if he falls that low?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:52 Breck
1:53 WesBunting: I don't see Green Bay taking a back, but I would say Leshoure because he cathes the football better.

Who is the best "small school" defense lineman?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:53 C W Freeman

Akeem Ayers

Do you see as the best pro prospects between Cam Newton Ryan Mallett and Blaine Habbert. These are my best qbs and in this order, what do you think?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:55 Breck
1:56 WesBunting: I think Gabbert is the best bc he is cleaner off the field. I like Newton on the field, but still have questions on him as a person.

Wes, If the Lions do get Amukamara at 13 do you like bruce carter with our pick in the 2nd rd?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:56 MotorCityManiac
1:56 WesBunting: I think Bruce Carter falls into the 3/4 round range bc of the injury...tough to draft a guy in the second with a current medical.

1:57 Joe Fortenbaugh: Ok guys, we have time for a few more questions before we have to send Bunting back to the lab.

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:57 Joe Fortenbaugh

do you think Ras-I Dowling could be moved to safety in a malcom jenkins like switch or do you think he could develop into a starting corner if he runs well at the combine

Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:58 jcal
1:58 WesBunting: I am not a big Ras-I fan...think he's more of a cover two CB...potential starter in the NFL but I am not a fan of bigger corners who play high
Wednesday February 9, 2011 1:58 WesBunting
1:58 [Comment From AquafanAquafan: ]
Why is NFP projecting a DE for Miami, when they seem to be pretty well set at the position with Merling and Langford being recent draft picks, and McDaniels and Starks (pro bowl) filling in nicely as well. This would seem to be a wasted pick when we need much more help elsewhere
