After pulling out of the Senior Bowl due to a shoulder injury, wide receiver Corey Davis could now miss the NFL Scouting Combine as well.

NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Western Michigan standout and potential first-round pick has recently suffered an ankle injury while preparing for the next level.

There were already questions surrounding the severity of Davis’ shoulder injury and whether it would impact his combine performance, now we’ll be lucky to see him on the field at all in Indianapolis.

Davis led the nation with 19 touchdowns this past season and racked up an NCAA-record of 5,278 receiving yards for the Broncos throughout his collegiate career.

Although the level of competition in the MAC will be frowned upon, Davis has solid physical traits at 6-3, 213 pounds and has proven to be a big-play threat with versatility to play outside or in the slot.

ESPN football analyst Mel Kiper currently projects Davis to be a late first-round selection.

Don't think it will hurt him that much honestly.

There's no way he makes it to 28.

But yeah, if he was there by some miracle, I'd take him without a doubt

Injured!!!!! Dallas instantly writes him in as their second round choice (bump to first if injured with substance abuse issues).

Combine isn't enough to drop his stock. All he has to do is get healthy by early April to have a pro day where he'll undoubtedly put up better #'s than he would have at the combine anyway.

Depends on his recovery time, but he may not be ready for a pro day either after having surgery. If he can't do either the combine or a pro day, I imagine it will indeed hurt his stock to some degree. Not sure how much though.

Sorry, we're not bumping him to first if he has substance abuse issues but we will be happy to forfeit our 3rd round pick

Hadn't heard of him before draft process started but after watching his tape... man, I sure hope he's around at 28. Dominated lower level competition and didn't skip a beat when they played bigger schools like Iowa or Michigan state.

First round players aren't really pet cats, but he's one of my favorite prospects now.

Scouting Report
You can go down the checklist of traits NFL teams want in potential No. 1 receiver, and it would be tough to leave any unmarked when it comes to Davis.

The former Bronco has all the physical tools to be a difference-maker at the next level: size, speed, reliable hands and long arms. But Davis’ best attribute rests between his ears, and allows him to maximize his natural talent. It will be that combination of brains and brawn that makes Davis replicate his college success in the NFL.

Davis may not have the thick frame or physicality of Williams, which some will contend makes him less of a threat in the red zone. But while he’s not as strong at the catch point, his combination of awareness, body control and precise route-running ability make him dangerous in different ways.

He’s adept at finding the soft spots in zone coverage, and has the acceleration to turn the slightest crease into a big gain. With a huge catch radius and refined technique, Davis can win at the line of scrimmage and shield smaller defenders away from the ball.

Production isn’t the most dominant factor in projecting NFL success, but it certainly doesn’t hurt, and Davis passes that test with flying colors. Over his four seasons in Kalamazoo, Davis averaged a ridiculous 83 receptions, 1,321 yards and 13 touchdowns per year.

The biggest concern with Davis could be a nagging ankle injury, which recently required surgery and will keep him from running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. His medical evaluations could easily end up being a vital piece of his overall grade for many teams.

He’s not as physically imposing as Williams or as explosive as Washington’s John Ross, but Davis is arguably the best balance of the two. He has all the physical and mental tools to be an immediate success at the next level, and if he makes a full recovery from the ankle injury, he belongs in the conversation as potentially the best pass-catcher in this year’s class.

Current Projection: 1st Round
