Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips learned how to coach from his dad, former Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints head coach Bum Phillips.
The younger Phillips was an assistant under his dad in both places and replaced his dad as interim head coach in New Orleans.
Wade Phillips says he doesn't ask his dad for advice, mostly because he doesn't have to.
"I don't have to go to him, he gives me advice," Phillips said.
He said what he likes and has learned from his dad is to put the past behind him.
"He never looks back, he always looks forward," the Cowboys coach said.
Phillips says his dad suggests to "look forward to the next one because that's the only one we can do anything about."
Of all the colorful things his dad has said, though, maybe this quote is most true for Wade Phillips now: "There's two kinds of coaches, them that's fired and them that's gonna be fired."
