What’s Jaylon Doing? (Week 1)

To me it looks like he was just trying to do too much and the deception with all of the flow to the left did what it was intended to do and got Jaylon to take a false step that helped create space.

LVE had the guy Jaylon was worried about and got himself out of position for.

Belichick would probably tell him to DO YOUR JOB.

Jaylon is the embodiment of “false steps.” I have gifs from him in 2019 doing similar inexplicable stuff.

JVE went that way also, they thought it was play action fake pass left then throw back to the back swinging out after the fake. Dear Lord did I just support Jaylon?...

Let me know if we are doing this every week. Is it just for Jaylon or are we going to do this for every player? Asking for a friend.

I disagree. I do not think he is looking at the back. I think he is looking at the TE that is running a deep cross,, JS has that area vacated by LVE with the back, and is headed that way because the TE released.. but when the TE crossed the depth threshold and committed to go deeper than JS responsibility, he stopped his pursuit. That's how I saw it.

1st game. New DC. Not a excuse. If he continues to be confused after a few games then it’s problems. Maybe his last year here. How did LVE do.

This tweet is a stupid comment. He's clearly not going with the handoff fake, he's looking at the QB the whole time.

What he's doing is playing the pass. Gronk ran a pattern over the middle, so Smith was moving underneath that route, and Godwin was out in the flat to Brady's right, and with Brady first opening up facing his right, either was an option. As soon as Brady turned back to the left Smith switched directions

Notice how the guy who tweeted told everyone to focus on the :43 mark - the close up view that doesn't show everything going on around the field. That doesn't tell the story.

If you look at the zoomed out views you can see that there were other responsibilities and that Smith did nothing wrong. He couldn't know the ball wasn't going to Gronk over the middle or Godwin in the flat until Brady turned back to his left to make the throw he did.
