What about Choice?

I just wanted to get something off my chest really. I love Felix Jones's capabilities and big play potential and I love Barber's toughness and fight in the red zone and on third down, but I really want to see more of Tashard Choice.I think he has what it takes to be the go-to-guy. He did single handedly carry the team a couple years back for a good stretch of games. I don't think you can say he's got the big-play capability of Felix Jones or the physical side of Marion Barber, but he's got more want than anybody when he steps up to the huddle and he makes things happen when he has to. Call me crazy, but I could see Choice as the 1st string RB.

Choice won't start over Jones but will get many more touches if we get rid of Barber as expected.

I'm crossing my fingers that Barber is history - and I really want to see what Choice can do.

I'm hoping we can find a better than average runner in the fourth or fifth round. I liked JJ's moves before he got top heavy and lost his burst. Choice is just OK. I would love to see some real speed at the position.

I would like to see Barber let go, too much money tied up in him for the production he brings to the table. As for Choice, if a CBA was in effect I would trade him to another team. He's in the last year of his rookie deal, might as well get something for him IMO. Besides, Dallas has done a good job of finding both Choice and Barber in the middle rounds of the draft. So I would look to cut payroll and get younger in the process.

JJ is supposed to be slimmed down now and back to his old playing weight. Someone gave him bad advice and now he should be back to "The Cat" that we know.

He wasn't talking about who I think you think he was talking about.

Habits are hard to break. I intended to say FJ not JJ. Both runners have had similar issues. The weight gain has not helped either one in my opinion.

I don't think he will, he looked like he lost a step even before the weight gain. There was a difference in his speed in 08 and 09 imo.

I've always thought Choice had the best instincts if not the best physical talent of the 3. How that would play out in a more prominant role would be interesting to see.

I still think he's a JAG with a questionable attitude.

I've never got where this "questionable attitude" notion came from. To my knowledge all he has ever done is respond to questions about playing time by saying he would like to play more. Also to my knowledge he hs never ben accused of not working hard. What is it that I am missing?

Choice is an average back and it's obvious by how few carries he gets that the Cowboys aren't very high on him.

He's either going to be traded or lost in free agency when his contract is up because the Cowboys will not resign him.

The Cowboys need a big, physical power back to compliment Felix someone who can move the pile and pick up short yardage.

Barber is gone and if the labor situation doesn't drag on all summer there's a possibility Choice could be traded.

i agree, choice seems to be better at hitting the gaps and looking downfield, aka making plays and getting positive yardage. felix USED to be incredibly fast, what the hell happened there is beyond me...i really wish they would start choice, he would shut alot of people up..

I thought Felix looked slower last year too - might be the 15 pounds he put on. His skill is having the speed and quickness to get throughgaps, so he needs to maintain a weight that will help hhim do that. Choice isn't as naturally explosive, but I believe he is better at finding whatever seam he can and making some positive yardage even when it seems the blocking wont allow it.

Choice averaged 3.7 a carry last season he's an average NFL back who doesn't get a lot of carries because the Cowboys know he's an average. He isn't the game changer Felix is. Felix bulked up last season and it slowed him down as well the Cowboys pathetic run blocking.

He's taken off the weight and if the OL improves I expect Felix to have a very good season this year.

It may be that he is just average - I certainly don't think he is a great one. but i do think he has earned more of a look and a chance to earn more time so he can prove what he is capable of. He did a very nice job stepping in as the full time RB against some very tough defenses as a rookie when Felix & Barber were injured, so it's not unreasonable to think that with a little more experience he might do well if given a chance. Some of what affected his average last year was being used in short yardage, and you also have to remember he never gets a chance to get into the flow of a game. I'm still in favor of giving Felix the bigger share of the carries, but I wouldn't mind seeing Choice get 30-35% of the carries.

Be careful what we wish for.

Choice may get exposed if asked to carry a starter's load over the course of a season.

Think Troy Hambrick. It is much harder to be a guy that starts and gets game-planned against then a fresh back up.

Choice has been impressive at times and offers some useful tools but statistically he isn't as impressive as Felix even last year. Felix did look heavy last year but all three backs performed poorly which is probably an indication our OL really was just about terrible.

He certainly didn't earn more of a look after that very costly fumble on opening day last season. He saw a grand total of 10 carries the next 10 games.

Granted he looked good as a rookie replacing an injured Barber in 08 but that was 3 years ago and he's done very little with the opportunities he's been given since.

As average as Barber has been Choice still isn't getting many carries so it's obvious the Cowboys aren't very high on him. He's quick and shifty but he's not very big and he doesn't have great speed.

He wouldn't make a good compliment for Felix the Cowboys need a big power back to share carries with Felix.

As for getting into a flow none of our backs have a chance to get into much of a flow with the rotation the Cowboys have.

The Cowboys are a pass first team so our backs have to take advantage of every opportunity they get running the ball because rarely do any of them get more than 12-15 carries a game.

For a back to get into a flow they have to carry the load you can't just keep going away from them every time they make a play.

Choice will be 27 at the end of next season if the Cowboys are going to get anything for him they need to start making a move as soon as there's a new CBA because he will not be resigned once his contract is up.

I would rather get a 5th or 6th round pick for him than nothing and that's what's going to happen if the Cowboys don't trade him soon. His stock will continue dropping the longer the Cowboys hang on to him.

Think Troy Hambrick.

That's what happened with Barber it's been Troy Hambrick part 2 with him.
