What about Cooper Beebe at guard?

One of the issues around Brock Hoffman is will the Cowboys pay to extend him if he plays to a higher level than Tyler Biadasz? History seems to indicate that the Cowboys do not value interior OL unless they are elite players as they have let Biadasz, McGovern, and Williams walk in the last three seasons. Granted he is a restricted free agent, but Hoffman is a FA this coming offseason. If he does break out would the Cowboys pay to retain him or just let Beebe take over for 2025? Seems like decent odds the Cowboys may put a 2nd round tender on a guy like that in hopes someone bites.

This question has a ton of layers to it that Brock Hoffman and Cooper Beebe really have no control over.
Not sure many fans know this but the pro-bowl/All_PRO is a strong prerequisite for players getting 2nd contract offers from Stephen

Martin won't be around for much longer. If Hoffman really is the answer at center this would be the move.

I can see future guard tandem of Bass Beebe with Smith & Guyton as tackles . Or if you leave Tyler Smith at G Beebe is nice depth if he can’t beat out Bass . I don’t think they drafted him as depth however .

Most likely Beebe takes a spot when someone's contract expires in that scenario. Unless Bass or Hoffman end up being absolute studs. I do think Steele rebounds this year as well. Of course I was also a Gallup truther, so there's no credibility here. Lol.

Pre knee injury Gallup was legit # 2 .

It says something when 2 UDFA OL are probably starters in Cleve . Good scouting . Of course drafted OL like Ball Waletzco have washed out so that’s the other side of the equation .

CB will end up the starter at either center or guard this year. Martin might be slowing down a little. I think Hoffman has had a couple rough days in camp the last couple practices. His lack of power has been showing at times. Dont be shocked when the Rams game gets here and CB gets meaningful reps at Center and looks the part more than Hoffman. Cant coach power and tenacity. CB has both. Hoff is a try hard guy and can be a guard or center if called on. THAT counts for alot when injury happens. Many teams have a major drop off from the starter to the next guy. Hoff can be good without alot of drop off. I rather not start him though. This is a great problem to have.

Oline was a weak area last couple years or so. Now we have turned it into an area of great depth and strength. Its something we can lean on to close out games. The 2014 team was just like that...suspect dline with a dominant oline room. I just hope the staff utilizes this. We need to find runners that can get it done behind the line. We need north-south runners, that can see it quickly and hit the hole.

Ultimately I think Beebe is going to be outstanding at either position, C or RG. That said, it's up to what happens with Hoffman or Martin. If Hoffman works well at C and Martin happens to retire next year that would answer the question, Beebe would excel at either position.

If Beebe shows promise to be better than him at C with a little seasoning, I could see us tendering Hoffman low because going into this preseason, Bass was the young OL being talked about and could still be seen as an eventual replacement for Martin.

Line next year could be: Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Bass, Steele. I'm not out on Asim Richards being one of those starters, either.

I liked our young line depth better than some, except at center, heading into the draft. Of course, if Edoga ends up starting at left tackle for some reason I can't fathom, I reserve the right to change my mind about our young linemen.

If Cooper legitimately can’t win a starting position this year, it’s good news for the Cowboys. Just shows they’re collecting quality depth and future starters.
As soon as they think CB is ready, he will be C1.

There’s no rush.

Hoffman isn’t the same player as CB.

I have a feeling Hoffman will have to lose the spot more than Beebe will have to win it.

Hoffman can walk after this season and net the cowboys a draft pick with an in house replacement already here. I would think they would showcase Hoffman as much as possible unless he shows to be a liability.

Of course that may come down to who really makes the decision too. McCarthy on an expiring deal probably doesn’t care about next year, but Jerry does.

The number of All Pros who don't get a second contract is practically 0, but Pro Bowls mean nothing.

Off the top of my head...Biadasz, Pollard, Byron Jones, DeMarco Murray were all Pro Bowlers and never got second contracts.

IF Hoffman looks good enough they will bring CB along slowly. It takes a lot of repetitions to get the shotgun snap down as automatic.
Even the regular snap takes work

I remember back in 07 when we had like 9 or 11 probowlers(something like that). Several of them were only pro bowlers because of several players opting out. Mike Jenkins was like the 4th alternate, but became a starter when the 3 ahead of him opted out.

Beebee may not be able to overcome his short arms at OG. Most do not.
