What about Jerry Porter?

The guy has talent, has it been squandered in that miserable Oakland offense? Don't get me wrong I like Berrian better and Roy Williams even better than that but maybe Porter comes at a much better bargain.

I don't follow Oakland at all, does anyone know if Porter is a locker room problem?

The Cowboys need a vet #2, I'm sure he will be looked at. He actually has pretty similar talent to Roy Williams.

I don't mind signing a FA like Porter, as long as we also draft a young receiver. Getting Roy Williams from Detroit would also solve the problem since he's still young. I just don't want all older receivers on the team.

I keep forgetting about Stanback, but then again, no one knows what he can do.

29 isn't old and they have three young receivers on the roster including last years fourth round pick.

No, it's not old, but it isn't young either. He'll be 30 before the season starts (at least I think so). We have some young receivers, but no one knows what they can do. Are Stanback, Hurd, and Austin the future? Who knows, but I don't think any of them are ever going to be # 1s. As I stated earlier, I wouldn't mind signing Porter, as long as we also spend one of our first day picks on a young receiver that can contribute now and for the long haul.

This is a really poor draft to be looking for a #1 wr, forcing the issue is not the way to build a team.

There are 4-6 WRs in this draft that could turn out to be # 1s. Will they? Yet to be determined. You can say the same for any other position in the draft. The bottom line is we have to get better and younger at the receiver position, either through the draft or FA. I'd certainly give up our 2nd round pick for Roy Williams and solve the problem, but it ain't happening.

Dream on, this is a really weak crop at the top.

You never know. Do you think anyone thought Jerry Rice would turn out to be the greatest to ever play the game when he was drafted? What about Michael Irvin? Drew Pearson was an undrafted FA and that was when the draft lasted 12-13 rounds. He turned out pretty well. As with any position, you evaluate the players and make your selection. We NEED a receiver. We can't wait for three years and hope a great one falls in our lap. We shouldn't reach, but taking one of the top 3 or so receivers in the draft with a late first round or early second round pick isn't crazy.

You must have not been around for those drafts then. Because those guys were highly thought of at the time, SF actually traded above Dallas to get Rice and Irvin's draft was one of the best wr drafts of all time including Tim Brown and Sterling Sharpe and a few #2 speed type wrs.(Blades, Perriman, and Miller)

I do, too. But he and TG are keys to what we do although no matter what they think about them, Dallas will likely try and get a vet FA esp if they can get a bargain.

If TG rebounds to his abilities of 2006 then we are set at WR. If not then we have to have Stanback deliver. And I'm not sure Jerry is willing to gamble a possible SB berth on that.

My bet is they are looking hard for a true #2 WR.

I agree with signing Porter and still drafting a young WR. I don't like the idea of TRADING for Williams though when we could get Porter without having to give up picks for him.
