Training Camp has opened and on it's way,
But as super critical as the role of a FG kicker is ...why are we not hearing about the FG kicking situation and competition thus far ?

Many games are won ... and Lost.. on FG kicks (and yes that even includes Extra points, Brett )

The kicking candidates in camp ? ..Tristan Vizcaino ? ...Brandon Aubrey ? ...

Per media insiders I'm surprised we have not heard something... more about our kickers daily regiments .... " He hit 4 out of 5 from 40+ yards today ... "
I admit that of all the positions on offense and defense to be encouraged and excited about this camp, this team .. the situation at FG kicker still is haunting me and has me uneased.

They haven’t kicked yet. They will Monday per Bones

Through two practices and Friday's walk-through, special teams coordinator John Fassel has taken a slow approach to thrusting either guy into a competition. As a result, Monday will be the official beginning of the face-off.
"I didn't want them to have to kick in front of the team and be evaluated until they got a couple of kicking opportunities just working out the operations," Fassel said. "On Monday, when we get the pads on it'll be the first day kicking in front of the team where every kick is charted and timed, make or miss. Monday, you'll see the actual competition begin."

Thanks a million for posting this. GREAT article. Really good stuff. Very insightful. I had no idea. I have a new pet cat now.
Fassel?

I wanted a different USFL kicker, but Aubrey was definitely one I was looking at and the one I thought they would have the best chance of signing because he's from the area. He's got a real chance to grow since he's only been doing this a few years relatively and is already showing nice accuracy.

Unfortunately there's gonna be no true way to judge a kicker in practice there's nothing on the line there's no pressure I mean they're back there relaxed knowing all they gotta do is kick the ball it's practice. Put them in the middle of a 90,000 crowd with the game on the line it's a whole different thing getting the snap right because that's also part of it you got guys lining up ready to come rush over the two gaps and it doesn't take much to mess up a snap and try to get the ball down. In practice I don't think they're going to have any problem with the mechanics, that's the problem, we will find out in some of the preseason games when it's really live and it's really full speed and there's really a crowd and even though it's a fake game the other team is going to be trying to stop you.

Continue to plead with people to recognize that kicker and punter are two positions that will mostly translate no matter whether the kicker or punter last played Division III or last played Division I or last played USFL or last played NFL. There is a difference in terms of environment. That's the only difference, though. Nothing in terms of the actual skill/talent.

Aubrey missed one FG this season, and one XP. I'm at least feeling as confident about him as I would any one else they could possibly bring in. Yeah, I know, but those veteran Ks you think should be considered are old, and if you look at their KO averages, that's the tell-tale sign of an aging leg, on the downward slope.

If we do get a third competitor in camp, I don't look for that to happen until one or both current competitors have failed to impress in an actual preseason game. Not going to be all that concerned, me, about camp kicking until then, if then.

I can tell you one thing. The winds are real tricky at Oxnard and difficult to kick in.

Broaddus said it ain’t been pretty
They should’ve picked up Michael Badgley a few days ago. Now he’s in Washington.

I feel the kicker is going to be an on going issue all season and will cost us games.
