What about the "code" Bill?

With all this talk of Parcell's raiding the staff and possibly players, I can't help but wonder about the "code". When Vinateri was available, Parcells signed Vandershank instead because the word was, there was a code that Parcells, Belecheat and friends understood about taking players away from each other. You didn't do it.

So does this not apply to Jerrah and the Cowboys organization or what?

That's not what the code is.

We had no chance to sign Adam V. because the Colts never let him leave.

This was a return favor for the Fins allowing us to have Garrett ..... people just do not seem to understand that.

I don't know what kind of "code" Parcells, Belichick and the rest of that group have.

All I know is that there's always some sort of feud going on in Parcells' coaching family tree.

They're like a mafia family. They kiss and hug, but never really trust each other. The Goodfellas.

Congrats Jeff Ireland, you're a "made" man. Watch your back.

Plus, it is a step-up in responsbilities that Jerry wasn't willing to give up here at Dallas. Jerry is a nice guy...

There wasn't much JJ could do with respect to Ireland. It was a great opportunity for Ireland, and JJ knew it.

With Sparano, as long as JJ keeps Garrett, he's probably o.k. - esp NOW that Garrett has a season under him as the OC. Earlier this season, JJ probably wanted Sparano to help Garrett (or work with him) as it was Garrett's first time around . . . .

As for players, we only have 4 unrestricted FAs (I think).

Flo, Hamlin, Reeves, and Davis.

I'm sure JJ can re-sign Hamlin before FA starts, and worst case, we can always franchise Flo, if he's really wanted.

Reeves and Davis can be upgraded, though I do like Davis' Special Teams ability.

why doesn't JJ just sell our uniform to Miami? That's what Bill really wants. People who wear cowboy's color and symbol.

All this talk of "The Code" makes me laugh. In the NFL, the only code is WIN. If you can't do that, then all the rest of that BS is left at the door for you to take with you upon your exit. Your right Chief. Any of them will do whatever it takes for them to win football games. That's what you pay them for. All this talk of not taking players from each other and all the crap is nothing more then trying to muddy the water. Payton did what they pay him to do and Bill know's it. Parcells was simply trying to make it as difficult as possible for Payton to succeed in his efforts IMO.

Could your signature BE any bigger? Taking up 75% of my screen? Is that really necessary?

I do, however, agree that Ireland is a return favor. But now Tony Sparano is apparently being lined up as their next HC. That's two now, how many before it's a problem? And right now, during our bye before the biggest game we've had in how long? Seriously?

I think as long as we have Garrett, who has a year under his belt, JJ is ok with Sparano leaving.

What irks me is the timing more than anything. Can BP make an offer to Sparano BEFORE our season ends? That would stink. We need 100% focus now.

Sparano, even if he wasn't linked to the Miami job, would draw interest from other teams. So who cares if its Miami? It could just as easily been another team. Like the Falcons, for example, whom have also asked to interview Sparano.

He is getting interest from other teams. Who cares if its Miami? No one is complaining about the Falcons looking into Sparano....

I don't put much stock into it, BP is trying to turn a team around and as long as he is staying within the league guildlines of hiring he is not doing anything wrong. I hate to lose staff but it comes with winning.

That's fine, obviously guys get hired and fired all the time. My problem is that all this is happening right this second ONLY because Bill took the job when he did, and he used to coach here. If he was just coming off a tenure with the Bills or the Ravens, he'd be raiding their staff, which is fine since they have nothing to play for here.

We're gearing up for the playoffs, and instead of concentrating, our staff is wondering, "Oh goody, I wonder if Bill will offer me a job too?"

I don't know about that. Dallas could have gone after Adam V. as soon as he became a free agent and hounded him to visit Dallas first. The code came into play in that Dallas waited until Adam V. made the first move and he chose to first visit Indy. I believe he was a FA for a few weeks before his visit to Indy. At least that is the rumor about how things went down.

We know the Dolphins had to get permission from Dallas for the interviews. Bill and Jerry probaly discussed some of the possibilities. Bill didn't go behind Jerry's back and do anything unexpected, so I don't see how any Code was broken.

The "code" isn't for previous franchises.

The "code" is a hands off approach that the coaches of the same tree have towards each others players.

So, BP doesn't take from BB and likewise. Thats what pissed BP off when SP made that offer on Davis.

It has nothing to do with taking from teams you used to coach. Parcells signed Jason Ferguson and Richie Anderson.

Its about coaches of your system taking players that you developed.

Kind of like not dating your best friends' exes in a way.

I think if we go to the recaps, we'd find that we scheduled him to come here after Indy - but Irsay never let him leave. I'm pretty positive that is what Parcells said happened.

Maybe Parcells is haggling our staff so we lose focus, lose a playoff game so that Phillips doesn't do any better than Bill! zomg....it could srsly be tru.
