What affect do you think Garrett's presser comments will have on players?

In Garrett's press conference on Monday, he took ownership of bad play management at the end of the game.

What affect do you think this will have on players? Will they rally around him with the attitude of "he owned up like a man, and I want to elevate my game to play for that guy", or will they lose faith with the attitude of "how can a bust my butt for a guy who kills my chances of winning"?

Up to now, we’ve heard a lot about how these players have bought in. True or not, what do you think the players are doing now mentally: still buying-in or thinking about selling off their shares?

Thoughts?

None at all. I don't think the players buy into anything he is trying to sell.

I'd be shocked if the players were to react to something like a HCs demeanor in a press conference. They spend a lot more time with him during the week. They probably don't even watch the pressers.

If the players are worth a damn they understand that it's not all on him and take some personal responsibility for not executing. If they indeed take that approach then they will respect that he took all the heat and let them go about their business.

And watching that team get back up after the int and the ko return and the 4th quarter TD doesn't look like a team that does not believe in what they are doing.

This. They don't play mistake free. I'm not saying JG shouldn't be better but the players themselves aren't helping the cause.

I think they will know they didn't hustle back just like the Press knew, and they will hear their Head Coach take responsibility and it will fire them up.

This. They should know who screwed up on that play.

I'm curious about Miles comments. Any take?

yes, garrett took ownership in a sort of half way, but it does not end there

why was the offense sitting around while the onside kick was being kicked? why werent the players huddling together 'in anticipation' of getting the ball and being told by the OC/HC what they were going to do once they got the ball back?

why were 2 plays not called?

why did the players lollygag back to the line? why was Dez arguing with the ref? this is a 30 second situation, every second is precious

austin not even bothering to take responsibility is laughable and pathetic and is a perfect reflection of the culture on this team

either they dont know the situation or they dont care and garrett needs to make sure that is NEVER the case again. IMO a player like austin or ogletree should be benched for not doing the obvious

why was the ball not spiked or TO not called?

there are several other questions that this idiocy at the end brings up

garrett needs to get his act together and get the attention of the players

IMO a couple of 'significant' players need to sit or at a minimum not start and the team needs to be told why the punishment is being meted out to send them a message

the problem is that when garrett himself is a huge part of the problem he does not have the moral authority to punish others for what they are doing wrong and cant hold their feet to the fire so he lets it slide

I haven't heard his comments. What did he say?

Not word for word but when he was asked why they didn't get back faster he said ask JG. I'm sure it's not much of any thing just found it to be a weired answer.

reflection of team culture

pass the buck
dont take responsibility
divert, dodge

did garrett ask him to not run back to the huddle

these players obviously have no fear of garrett and dont know game situations or dont care

austin needs to sit out the next game IMO to send a message to the team

never happen though

no discipline
no accountability

just talk

He'd have to sit Austin Ogletree and Dez. None of them made an effort to do the right thing.

Whaaattt??? Doesn't this young, rich fool realize that JG ain't his legs, and didn't have to do the running for him? Yeah, I can just hear JG telling Austin to take his sweet a** time getting back so they could perhaps run another play to maybe get a little closer? :bang2:

Good question and I would like to know why too.

why were 2 plays not called?

I would bet there were two plays called, maybe three

why did the players lollygag back to the line? why was Dez arguing with the ref? this is a 30 second situation, every second is precious

My guess is they were not on the same page, it looked like the rest of the team were expecting a TO to be called if a completed pass but Miles and Ogletree didn't realize it was not a gain in yards.

Miles has become good at reflecting questions in the media. He is being spotlighted in in-opportune times from the missed ball in the lights to not hustling on some occasions.

Couldn't spike it because they were not set and ready, a penalty there definitely takes them out of FG range. Like I said, I think the plan was to call a TO if it was a completed pass but under the assumption it was around 5 yds, a few of the players failed to see the result of the play. When Romo realized they had to spike it, too much time was wasted and they were forced to use the last TO.

To me, these guys were not well-coached at the various possible protocols in the last 26 secs. They should have known what to do automatically in each scenario.

Agree, once again we saw Garrett freeze like a deer in headlights when the pressure was at its greatest. Once is ok and chalk it up to inexperience but we are seeing a trend now and that needs to be stopped yesterday.

For some reason my answers got mixed in with the quotes, way too early for me :(

garrett will have to take a stand at some point

maybe one sits and one does not start with the team knowing why the punishment is being given out

not garrett, expect nothing to happen and we will hear more rubbish

we beat carolina and it will be business as usual

win one, lose one and so on

agree with you

garrett needs to lay down the hammer now

it is not too late at 2-3 but we have to get our act together and it has to come from garrett

Garrett had to take the blame, because everybody in the world knew it was his fault. He's been the master at defecting blame here, so to act like he's done a good thing by taking 'one for the team' and it's going to motivate the troops, is what remains of the defenders of Garrett...

Agree, I thought we really would win that game and we should have. It is not too late and I said we must win at least two out of these five games to get 4-5 with a stretch of winnable games after.

This game was a step in the right direction, but will they stay the course or revert to that .500 team they currently are. The Carolina game will tell the story, if we come out and get embarrassed like in Seattle or Chicago, we are pretty much done.

Our only hope of the playoffs is winning the division. I think we should go 4-2 with losses at Phil and Wash. If that is true, that nets us 5 wins so far and that is not enough. We must somehow get at least four other wins somewhere and Carolina has to be one of them IMO. 9-7 might win the division but 10-6 would make me feel more comfortable.
