Taco Tuesday! What are our options with this kid?

RE looks pretty good if Gregory gets back on the field. Quinn, Gregory, Armstrong looks fine.

I've always thought Taco looked more like a LE than a RE anyways, so maybe he can be moved behind DLaw. He's got a similar body type to David Irving so maybe a move inside could work out.

I dont see much of a trade market for the guy. Also dont see reason to pick up the 5th year option. But we are still a couple seasons from that decision.

Finally he was pegged as a guy in need of 1 to 2 developmental years by a lot of draft people back when he came out. I've said in other threads this should be his year to either meet that projection or never develop and go the way of the bust. So this whole conversation may look way different next offseason, for better or for worse.

What say ye?

I agree with your assessment. Taco is by far a much better player from the left. Played both sides in college but was better from the left then too. He’s not “quick twitch” enough playing against Left Tackles who are generally better athletes than Right Tackles. He also doesn’t have the bend. I believe Taco could give you 6-8 sacks per year from the left side and be solid against the run.

Taco should be ok. But I have a suspicion we might try to trade him during the draft. Him or Crawford. I think Will McClay and Stephen Jones really wanna get up into the bottom of the 1st round or top of the 2nd. To do that we need ammo. Look at some of our invites and players we have already shown interest in. We already looked at Simmons, and Ed Oliver. WE REALLY love Adderly.

This is the year for him. Either he has it or not most likely.

He should be on the left side. I think he is to skinny in the legs to get push inside. He is one player I'm excited to see this year. Hopefully he breaks out. If not I would consider him a bust.

I saw him as a three to four year project.. We will eventually see if he worked out or chilled in the offseason..

Many would hope that he shows some pride, desire, or some fire, and gained some strength and improved his impact on game day...

The entitlement generation is kinda lame....

not convinced Taco will be here..nor Crawford. Depends on if we can find a trade partner on draft day. It would be awesome if we could get Ed Oliver. I'm afraid we would have to trade away too much..thus losing too much.

100%

But we waste DLaw at LDE instead of taking on the LTs

He's a poor RDE but has the body type and athleticism to play LDE if he can develop. If he can produce 6-9 sacks + good run defense there, then D-Law can be affordably replaced.
Let's hope.
No disrespect to Tank--there's just a salary cap.

I can’t see Taco as trade bait at this point. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be all for the idea if it netted us a draft pick or player with bigger upside. Besides, the whole DLaw dilemma prob haulted any scenario of trading a player at that position. That said, I have a gut feeling that we’ll see a different Taco this year. I’m not predicting double digit sacks or anything, but I believe Taco could generate 6-8 if given more opportunities. If we can get a nice rotation of mid tier sack production, Dallas may actually have something.

Talking only DE: Let’s say DLaw has surgery late and only plays 10 games (worse case scenario)..

DLaw (10 games) 6-8 sacks..hopefully more.
Quinn 6-8 sacks..veteran in player friendly scheme.
Taco 6-8 sacks..third year and not hurt.
Gregory (assuming he plays 10 games) 4-5 sacks
Armstrong (I believe he will surprise) 4-6 sacks
Crawford (flex @ DT) 4-6..always steady
Hyder (flex @ DT) 4-6..he’ll produce under Marenilli

That’s 34 sacks on the Low end. That’s a deep rotation if everyone stays healthy. I realize it’s a big If, but that dosent include DT production or drafted players.

At this point, Taco has been a bust. But he could turn it around much like Lawrence did his third year. I haven’t given up hope and I don’t believe Dallas has either. Even if they have no choice.

Taco started 7 games in 2018.

Gregory started 1.

Taco has the ability but his attitude was the issue in 2018.

At this point, can’t see Taco being a particularly desirable trade acquisition for another team.

He needs to take a step or two up the ladder this season or else he’ll wind up living in JAGville.

I still think he has a chance to be a serviceable left end. If negotiations with Lawrence continue to sour, then maybe that's where you go. Let him compete with everyone else for the starting spot opposite Quinn. Otherwise, trade him and cut your losses. If a first round pick isn't even part of the conversation to be in the starting lineup by year three, then there's no point in wasting any more time or resources on him.
