An emotional Bill Parcells stood in front of the media on Nov. 23, 2007 after the Cowboys beat Carolina, 24-20, to improve to 8-3 and tie them with Philadelphia, Carolina and St. Louis for the best record in the NFC.
"You can't call them losers anymore," Parcells said. "They're something else now. I'm happy for them. This was by far the best win I've had in Dallas. I'm proud of them."
Parcells didn't necessarily call the Cowboys winners after that game either, but he thought that was a pivotal moment for that team's growth.
On Monday, Wade Phillips said he was convinced the Cowboys would bounce back because, "I think we have a winning team. If you have a bunch of winners, I think you're going to bounce back from losses."
After a few questions CBS11's Steve Dennis had an interesting interaction with Phillips. Click on the link for the back-and-forth
Dennis: I'm sorry, you said you have a team of winners. How do you know that, what have they won?
Phillips: "Well they've won eight games, they've lost four. That's where we are. I don't think we have a team of losers."
Dennis: But I mean the question around here is this particular group of guys, the core group, hasn't won anything.
Phillips: "We haven't, no. We haven't lost anything either."
Dennis: But you're willing to call them winners?
Phillips: "I think they're winners. They've won eight games already. You wouldn't call 8-4 a winning team? I don't know why you wouldn't."
Dennis: Well, if the regular season is what you're interested in, sure.
Phillips: "Well the regular season will get you to the postseason. That's how you get there. You play all 16 games, whatever your record is gets you there or doesn't. Right now we've played 12."
