What are the odds of the cowboys drafting a qb in rd1.

Absolutely “0”

First, it would be stupid to draft a QB in round one at the beginning of Dak’s contract.
Second, there is no safe QB in this draft. Even if you had your choice of any QB out there, none are worth the gamble of a first round pick when you both have a starting QB and have so many needs to improve your roster.

Build your roster with good players over the next 3 years, hopefully get back to a roster that can compete and be a stronger team when it’s time to draft a QB early.
Aww...so the ingredients are perfect for the Jones's to extract rage...

Just draft a QB high in a bad QB draft at the beginning of Daks massive contract...

Chances of this happening are far greater than zero

Last time we drafted a qb in the first round i believe we took 2. Troy aikman, and Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft. I just think Jayson dart could be a gem, but you never know. And if you are going to trade down or trade up to try and get him, might as well take him at 12, because anyone you draft in the first could be a bust, no matter what position.

Deion playing here means nothing at all.

This is about protecting Shedaur and making sure Shedaur goes to a team where Shedaur has a chance at a large second contract.

NFL teams fly through young QBs if they don't perform quickly.

Media loves to hate Dallas, media would love for Dallas' FRP QB to stink and pressure mount to try someone else.

Deion knows the brand, and knows Shedaur wont have playoff success here.

Dak is here for a while anyway
the last line is the deciding factor. Saying he wont have playoff success here... well, about 25 of the 32 teams havent had any real recent playoff success.

Not many. Rush went from the Cowboys to the Giants and back to the Cowboys. Grier is on his 5th team in two seasons. Yeah stranger things have happened, but its a pretty short list of QBs that have turned into quality players after they hit 30.
Rush was cut MULTIPLE times and nobody claimed him. Thats how he ended up back in Dallas... because nobody else wanted him.

I'm curious, what are the odds of the cowboys moving up if sanders is available at pick 8, or drafting dart at 12. To me those are the only capable qbs of starting besides cam, but he won't be available. And to be honest this is a good year to draft a qb because he can sit for a yr or 2 and learn, also when was the last time dak played a whole season without getting hurt. So Saunders or dart would be a great backup qb and insurance for when d

These QBs are not elite

No scout is jumping on the table for either,

We would be stupid to move up

Yep, spot on.....in which universe has Jerry ever admitted he was wrong?

I y
Atlanta paid Cousins and THEN drafted Penix so it's not impossible.

But with Dallas it's as close to impossible as you can get considering who's calling the shots.
I think our beloved Eagles also drafted Hurts after signing Wentz to a mega deal. I still dont understand how they got out of that one. But zero chance Jerry does this I'm afraid.

IF they trade back in the first and got another 2nd, and Sanders is still there, maybe.

The last thing you want is a first round QB making good money as a backup while you are in the hole with Dak’s contract.
The penultimate thing you don’t want is to groom a QB for a couple years or more, have him, in a best case scenario, ready to finally start, and also it’s now time to sign him to a second contract.

Dallas needs a backup QB only. The team must be within a year of the financially feasible year of releasing Dak before putting high draft stock in another QB. You’d like to at least get 3 years of your QB on his rookie deal.

This FO does not value the QB position.

When was the last time we picked a QB in the first round? And did we have a starter at that time?

That should answer your question.

There is always a chance of course. Like there is a chance that an apple will fall upwards into the sky and not downwards and on Newtons head.
You're 100% correct and it's absolutely bananas to me. The QB position is widely considered the most important position on a football team, and the Jones' are like "meh". Blows my mind.

I would not say that, they value the position I would say they over value the position because they are scared to go in another direction with good but not great QB on the roster. And most of the NFL is the same hence why guys like Watson, Carr, Winston, Geno Smith can find jobs. Most teams will use high picks on a QB because they have to or choose to because they know they have trash on the roster.

This is the list of quarterbaks taken in the first round over the past five drafts:

Caleb Williams
Bryce Young
Trevor Lawrence
Joe Burrow
Jayden Daniels
C.J. Stroud
--------------------
Zach Wilson
Drake Maye
Trey Lance
Anthony Richardson
Tua Tagovailoa
Justin Herbert
Michael Penix
J.J. McCarthy
Justin Fields
Bo Nix
Mac Jones
Kenny Pickett
Jordan Love

The first six were drafted either #1 or #2 overall.

When I filter these six QB's out, how many 1st round picks in the past five years, would you say, is having a successful career?

Only three of these quarterbacks were drafted below the 12th overall pick.

Tua? People seem high on Nix, but it's early in his career.

Nothing is beyond the stupidity of the Jones, but it better be 0 because taking a QB in the first this year would be a waste of a good draft pick.
