Regarding wins and losses, Parcells says "you are what you are" and that by mid-season, you know what kind of team you have. He also has man-boobs, but that isn't germane to my post...After seven, gut-wrenching weeks, I've seen enough to make my assesment:
Good teams win close games; even bad teams pull-off a lopsided upset from time to time; Throwing out the Philly thrashing and the Commanders collapse, we're left with five squeakers and a 3-2 record. Bledsoe's come down to earth, injury has tested the depth and the play-calling is getting more conservative each week. So what are we? I say we're average (with a bullet)...
Our defense is on the move. Save the last two-minutes of the Commanders game, they've been playoff-caliber and should only get better. Take your Zimmer agenda and Roy-bashing and shove it. This defense will be scary someday soon IF, and only if, our offense pulls its weight.
Some observations:
I think we're a Wild Card team only if we stay healthy, scheme around Bledsoe's limitations and find a decent FA kicker. We need to beat Washington, at least split with NY and Philly and go 5-3 after the Bye (oh, and get really lucky) to have a chance at the division.

Some observations:
- Barber's played well for two-straight weeks. He's unique in that he's a true weapon out of the backfield. So, why didn't we throw it too him more? Why don't Parcells' Cowboy teams use RBs as checkdowns like so many other teams do? Given Bledsoe's lack of time and mobility, Barber should've caught a half-dozen dumps, Sunday.
- Everyone is frustrated by the conservative playcalling in the red zone. I really think we are compensating for Bledsoe's mobility shortcomings. He's not a running threat (as we saw again) and he's not mobile enough to execute a a naked boot- a goalline staple and a requirement to keep D's from keying on your run. I like Bledsoe for what he is and I am not a hater. But I wonder if we should *gulp, can't believe I'm saying this* bring Romo in on goalline plays to make teams defend everything.
- We felt the loss of Flozell more than any other, but Petiti, not Tucker, seemed to struggle most without help. Why didn't we adjust at half and start chipping with backs once it was evident that Tucker was holding his own?
