What are we?

Regarding wins and losses, Parcells says "you are what you are" and that by mid-season, you know what kind of team you have. He also has man-boobs, but that isn't germane to my post...After seven, gut-wrenching weeks, I've seen enough to make my assesment:

Good teams win close games; even bad teams pull-off a lopsided upset from time to time; Throwing out the Philly thrashing and the Commanders collapse, we're left with five squeakers and a 3-2 record. Bledsoe's come down to earth, injury has tested the depth and the play-calling is getting more conservative each week. So what are we? I say we're average (with a bullet)...

Our defense is on the move. Save the last two-minutes of the Commanders game, they've been playoff-caliber and should only get better. Take your Zimmer agenda and Roy-bashing and shove it. This defense will be scary someday soon IF, and only if, our offense pulls its weight.

Some observations:
  • Barber's played well for two-straight weeks. He's unique in that he's a true weapon out of the backfield. So, why didn't we throw it too him more? Why don't Parcells' Cowboy teams use RBs as checkdowns like so many other teams do? Given Bledsoe's lack of time and mobility, Barber should've caught a half-dozen dumps, Sunday.

  • Everyone is frustrated by the conservative playcalling in the red zone. I really think we are compensating for Bledsoe's mobility shortcomings. He's not a running threat (as we saw again) and he's not mobile enough to execute a a naked boot- a goalline staple and a requirement to keep D's from keying on your run. I like Bledsoe for what he is and I am not a hater. But I wonder if we should *gulp, can't believe I'm saying this* bring Romo in on goalline plays to make teams defend everything.

  • We felt the loss of Flozell more than any other, but Petiti, not Tucker, seemed to struggle most without help. Why didn't we adjust at half and start chipping with backs once it was evident that Tucker was holding his own?

I think we're a Wild Card team only if we stay healthy, scheme around Bledsoe's limitations and find a decent FA kicker. We need to beat Washington, at least split with NY and Philly and go 5-3 after the Bye (oh, and get really lucky) to have a chance at the division.

We have to quit putting our D in a position to win us every stinking game. Until that happens, I am not sure we are a playoff team.

This is a .500 team who's going to have to hope the NFC sucks as bad as it did last year, so they can go 8-8 or 9-7 and barely slide into a playoff spot.

I think we are an average team that is playing average football - we are 4-3 and right on pace to produce the 9-7 record I predicted.

The thing that has really hurt us has been the inability to execute well in the red zone in most of our games (exception SD) and poor FG kicking (cost us 2 games).

I really think we are a good team!

If we can fix our last minute defence we will be good!

If for some reason the BP grows a set and quits playing conservitavely, we are a play off team. If BP insists on playing not to lose instead of playing to win...........we are no more than average.

We have to play philly, gints and the foreskins all at their place, we also have to play the Chiefs, and Broncos. We have a tough schedule. Can anyone pencil in a win in the rest of our division games, I can't. I guess I will just watch nailbiters every week, and depending on how Cortez is feeling, that will determine our fate. We should just quit wasting everybodys time and run Cortez out there on first down in the Red Zone!

you can not expect our defense to win the game for us every week. Parcells is a dinosaur from the 80's and untill he gets over his phobia of playing not to lose we will remain in these last minute games.

I know that the offense was bad today and the o-line was abused, however seattle kept 8 men in the box the most part of the game and parcells throws in thomas when barber was tearing it up!( go figure).

inside the ten TWICE and we get 3 count them 3 points. where does the fault lie with the playcalling. as usual parcells run, run, run. No play action inside the 10 and the hawks line up eight men in the box. here is a novel concept spread the defense in the red zone line up in the ever famliar running formation , give the defense several routes to decifer and score the damn touchdown everyone does it to us!

Now people are going to start ripping me for questioning big bill, SO WHAT! we are quick to call everyone out but the old relic with his im a hall of fame coach attitude! open up the offense or we will comtinue to lose these last second games because bills fat *** continues to play not to lose grow a freakin set and let us win by more than a field goal. Someone PLEASSSE SHOOT CORTEZ!

we sent our line backers at the qb the first three quaters and rattled hasselback and low and behold zimmer calls of the dogs. and gives hassleback allday to pick our defense apart.

parcells will choke the life out of this team. NEWS FLASH! lard *** we are not the giants of the 80's we are the cowboys of 2005. give these kids a chance to succeed!

a team with all of the talent in the world but no brain to use it. we could win every game if we just tried.

i think were a 9-7 to 10-6 football team. People seem to forget that this D of ours is a young one and its already playing great and will only get better. Our offense it was almost expected that the OL was gonna have trouble as it was it's 1st game without Flozell so it didnt know how Tucker would play and how much help he would need. Now Parcells can look at what we need to do to best protect Bledsoe with the guys we have and what plays to best use in certain situations so the players arent put in a situation to fail.

Loses like this happen at times guys, not lets over exagerate and jump the bridge just because we lost this game and it was a pretty good team we played. On the road also which proves that we are as good as anybody in the NFC. Just relax and watch this team grow and get better. This team is showing good things.

We're playing like your typical 7-9, 8-8 or 9-7 team. A few plays here and there could be the difference between squeaking into the playoffs or not.

We have talent at a lot of spots but the places where we're not as talented could really cripple us. We're playing essentially 2 undrafted FAs at the OT positions and neither player has hardly shown they can hold up. On top of that, we have an immoble QB who has a history of wilting under shaky pass blocking. That alone is a tall hurdle for this team to overcome.
