What competition is there on offense?

this year training camp seems boring for those who want to see the offense. We all know who the starting 11 will be so the only thing that can happen for MOST of those guys is get hurt

Obviously Dez and Romo need to get back in football shape and Elliot needs to see how holes develop at this level.

Other than that it's the battle between McFadden and Morris to see which will be given the opportunity for 500 yards and maybe the best is TWill/Butler but I don't think TWills spot is in any jeopardy.

Will Chaz Green push Free? Jerry already said Dak isn't beating Moore.

Garrett is too loyal to veterans to make many changes. No way do I see him starting Green over Free, regardless of what Green does in camp. No chance in putting Green in there when he didn't play a snap last year and with a brittle Romo.

Only competition will be for 5th WR, 3rd TE, 4th RB.

The competition is really at the right tackle and WR depth. There may be some competition to see if Darius Jackson can push someone off the roster. This is an elite offense which added a projected to be elite player.

No competition means you have a set lineup and that's not a bad thing to me. Green will compete for swing tackle, maybe even see him at guard some. Butler will compete for 4th WR. As many questions as we have on defense it's nice to me that the offense is set

Tell that to Ware, Murray, Hayden, Randell, Leary, etc... He'll put who he thinks is the best guy out there.

When did Ware and Murray get replaced in the starting line-ups during training camp?

The point was he was loyal to his veterans. I threw them in there to show that he is able to make decisions on whet he feels is best for the team. But, focus on Leary--that is a perfect example to counter you assertion.

Who knows what went on behind the scenes with Ware/Murray, that became a money thing and JG could have been shut down and JJ/Stephen made that call.

Leary started last year and got hurt, Collins filled in and didn't give it up. Pretty much everyone on this board said last year that Collins was the better guard, but Leary came out as the starter. Same could happen with Green, but I don't see him winning it outright in camp

Yes, mostly backup battles.

Can't see Green pushing Free, but I can see him showing if he's starting material for 2017.

Don't see Butler pushing Williams unless he just stands out so much that there's no choice.

And I think that's the closest we come to starter battles.

In backup battles, it will be interesting to see how the running back position shakes out. Assuming Dunbar will go on PUP, McFadden and Morris will battle to be the primary backup and Jackson and Rod Smith will battle to try to knock one of the vets off the roster or force Dallas to keep four RBs.

Despite what Jerry says, if Prescott clearly outplays Moore and shows he's ready to be the top backup, I think Dallas would give him the job.

No fullback means we'll likely keep four TEs and with Escobar likely to be out for a while, I would assume that means both Swaim and Gathers make the team.

I also think we're fairly set at receiver with Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Butler and Whitehead. If we keep six, then it will be a battle between the UDFAs and Street, and I believe one of them would have to force us to want to keep six.

Offensive linewise, I don't see much of a battle. The top five are set and the backups are Brown, Leary, Looney and Green. If we trade Leary (which I wouldn't at this point), I'm not sure we have much to battle for his spot.

QB, Prescott may push Moore for playing time. But also, if they believe Prescott can develop into a future long term starter, then they bring him along, as they did Romo. Everyone knew Romo could have came in sooner. But they held him out until the right time. One of the few things Parcels did right. Unless Moore is horrible, we won't see Prescott.

RB, Elliott, DMC, Morris, many think Jackson will push DMC off the roster. Don't be so sure of that. If they only keep 3 RB's, Jackson will be on the PS. Also depends on what the plans are for Dunbar after he can return from PUP.

FB, Rod Smith moves to FB, I seen where Keith Smith, the LB will be tried at FB again too.

OL, Green will push Free, but as long as Free is healthy, it is his job to lose. Leary will be in the mix as well for OG. But I think he still gets traded during TC. Main competitoon with be backup C / G. Right now the front runner is Looney. So that will need to be watched.

TE, how many do they keep, and what happens when Escobar returns. He is in the last year of his contract, coming off an Achilles injury. If Swaim and Gathers impress, will Escobar even be back.

WR. Dez, TWill, and Butler, Beasley will be top 4. I think we see good things from Butler. Whitehead will only be pushed if someone can return punts and kickoffs. Can Brown do that, he is the only WR I see that can push for a spot, and that would be Street's spot, if they keep 6, if not, then PS for him.

To me this is a good thing, it is the most stable roster we had going into TC we had since the 90's. Now, that is not saying it is a great roster. But it looks good on paper. As all teams think they look good on paper.

Defense, now this is an entire different thing to deal with. Need to look and think about it.

Didn't Leary get replaced only after he was injured?

When one side of the ball is pretty much set, that's a wonderful thing. I don't remember many offensive position battles back in the 90s.

Collins was put in there in place of Leary even after coming back from injury. If Green shows he is a better option then he has a chance to start. Sorry I don't see this big loyalty issue you are talking about. Garrett has started rookies at center and both guard spots since taking over as HC.

They should not move any pieces on the O-line to RT. As much as Free is criticized he is still part of one of the best O-lines in the NFL.
