FA - Sign Blalock as OG
Sign Huff as Safety

1 #9 Tyron Smith, OT, USC 6-5 #320 - Smith is the future of offensive tackles - Despite his “small” stature, that is actually where Smith gained experience in college. His versatility, though, would allow him to be a “swing” tackle for Dallas–he would start at right tackle, but move to the left side if Free would get hurt

2 #40 Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA 6 #202 - Good instincts for the position. Reads the quarterback's eyes and has good feet, balance and straight-line speed, aiding him in being in consistently good position in coverage. Reads run quickly and is aggressive in downhill pursuit. Classic ball hawk. Reads the quarterback's eyes and breaks quickly when he reads target location. Good acceleration and straight-line speed. Very good ball skills

3 #71 Will Rackley, OG, 6-3 #310 - mobility is complemented well by his strength. He has a very thick lower body, and his upper body strength is adequate (29 reps at the Combine). athleticism allows him to play with tremendous leverage

4 #110 Brandon Burton, CB, Utah 6 #190 - a very good cornerback. He has solid athleticism and shows on film the quickness to defend against just about any size receiver. Brandon is smart and is strong when playing man-to-man defense. He is a solid zone cover corner. He handles the physical aspect of his position very well and is aggressive

5 #143 Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame 6-1 #319 - Two-gap nose tackle has the anchor and lower-body strength to hold up against double-team. Aware of the play in the backfield, works his way off his block to chase plays when run to the other side of the line. Flashes nimble feet through trash inside. Swallows backs with his girth when he closes up a gap, and has the strength to knock down smaller backs with an arm tackle. Chase and hustle are impressive, will help linebackers make stops at the second level and takes deep angles to chase down running backs down the sideline.

6 #176 Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama 6-2 #220 – Greg McElroy knows he’s not as good an athlete as Auburn quarterback Cam Newton - McElroy thinks he’s more ready to play in the NFL than Newton is- gotta love the attitude

7a #220Cecil Shorts III, WR/KR Mount Union, 6 #200 - Serious speed, and a serious deep threat. Will catch in traffic and will catch across the middle. Will catch what he should. Good ups. Will fight for first downs

7b #252 Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville, 5-11 #207 - Power runner with good thickness in the upper and lower bodies. Runs with good lean to get through arm tackles, or even run over smaller defenders. Looks like a bull, and often runs like one, but can also slide through traffic inside with cuts and fair vision. Fair foot quickness for his size. Nice burst past the line if hole is evident, and strong running makes him difficult to bring down

Trade down What Dallas will do

FA - Sign Blalock as OG
Sign Huff as Safety

1 #9 Gabe Carimi Wis OT Wis 6-7 #315 - well put together offensive tackle prospect who has some real nasty to his game and possesses good overall strength for the position Displays the ability to anchor with consistency against the bull rush and exhibits good power in his upper body once he gets his hands on you. Does a nice job moving his feet through contact and sticking to blocks and is much more comfortable when engaged Gets his big paws up quickly into contact, exhibits good hand location, creates a jarring punch and is heavy handed through the play. Likes to finish runs and plays with a mean streak

2 #40 Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA 6 #202 - Good instincts for the position. Reads the quarterback's eyes and has good feet, balance and straight-line speed, aiding him in being in consistently good position in coverage. Very good ball skills

2b-3a Kelvin Sheppard, ISLB, LSU 6-2 #250 - Big, physical ILB. Thick, strong physique and plays a rugged game. Strong at the point and can take on interior lineman and FBs, and displays solid shedding technique. Smart and disciplined, honors his assignments and is rarely out of position. Good instincts and wastes few steps. Good speed and range. Solid in pass drops. Good tackler. Unquestioned leader of a fine defense

3 #71 Will Rackley, OG, 6-3 #310 - mobility is complemented well by his strength. He has a very thick lower body, and his upper body strength is adequate (29 reps at the Combine). athleticism allows him to play with tremendous leverage

That draft projection looked very interesting...

9. Aldon Smith
40. James Carpenter
71. Rashad Carmichael
110. Greg Jones
143. Lawrence Guy
176. Jeron Johnson
220. Allen Bradford
252. Erik Mensik

Flavor of the day draft

I think we end up staying put. I don't think Smith is a 9th pick value -- but I do think he's likely the best guy on the board at that point

trade back and get cute is a nice theory -- but if we are truly going OT, I want the best one, not the 2nd or 3rd best in order to gain a 3rd round pick that we'll likely screw up anyway

So freaking true. And if we trade down below Minnesota we could possibly see the top 2 or 3 tackles come off the board before we pick.

Why are we signing Huff AND drafting Moore?

Why are we signing Blalock AND drafting Rackley?

The mocks themselves are fine, I just question the meaning of a few of the picks, which actually sounds very much like what Dallas would do.

Actually, I'm not against signing Huff and drafting Moore. I'm not sold that Moore can start this year. (at least early on)

Yeah I don't get why we would sign Huff and draft Moore, waste of a 2nd round pick if you already have a starting FS. I would rather go OL, DL, or CB at 40 if were sure we can get Huff.

As for Signing Blalock and drafting Rackley, its because we need two OGs. Rackley can replace Koiser and Blalock can replace Davis after we cut him and save tons of $.

I don't understand, where is Moore starting (even next year) if we sign Huff?

Doesn't it make more sense to try to get another starter with that 2nd round pick or even turn it into more picks than to take a guy that'll back Huff up for 3-5 years?

I don't think Davis is going anywhere, so I guess that explains my question regarding getting both.

I know the popular players to be cut around here are Newman, Colombo, Davis and Barber but of the four, I think the only likely ones to go are Colombo and Barber.

What does Davis have going for him?

Age? No
Salary? No
Production? No

I say hes gone

The salary cap and having played next to Colombo.

Can you expound on the first one? Last I remember his deal was 7/$49Mish and hes near the end of it

Houck said he needs to get more out of Davis.

I think Kosier would be an improvement next to Tyron at RT

The only thing possibly saving Davis is that he has played really well when the rest of the O was clicking -- he's a guy that just can't get motivated to play at a high level when things start going south. You hate to see that, but this league is full of guys like that.

If he takes a pay cut he may stay

Ok Count let me Splain

heres my reasoning behind taking Moore an Rackley

Our current Safeties
Sensabaugh – FA really don’t think he will be back
Ball – FA

well Huff seems to be the fan favorite to sign - that the main reason for me to put his name down

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/659906-michael-huff-to-dallas-who-needs-who-more

Huff would also allow the team to go out and draft another safety to play alongside him, and would be able to teach the rookie. They could also bring back Gerald Sensabaugh to play opposite Huff, which could make for a solid tandem and allow Sensabaugh to play closer to the line where he seems most comfortable.
One thing that stands out about Michael Huff is how athletic he is. This guy could play any position in the secondary and do rather well.

Or Pool, Weddle, or who ever the sign

Then we got Moore already in camp – I would rather have Williams from NC and am sure the JG has got the word on his injury

Now that signing of Blalock –I rather have him Backing up or either playing than Holland

He could takeKosier’s place - but I would rather keep Kozier as a player or a backup

Kozier will be 33 come Nov

Then take Rackley to take over for Davis or Kosier

Davis’s Contract 2011-2013: $6 million

We need all the help we can get at those 2 spots. Adding Tyron Smith to them would give us damn good start in rebuilding our weakest areas - OL and S.

I'm loving that a lot.
